Musicians Who You Are Most Shocked Are Still Alive

In order of MOST shocking starting with #1:
1. David Crosby
2. Ozzy Osbourne
3. Ginger Baker
4. Keith Richards
5. Brian Wilson
I know many would put Richards #1, but after reading "Life" some years back, I understand. He admitted to doing lots of drugs, but said he always limited the quantity and never went overboard. Undoubtedly the reason he's still around. Without a liver transplant, Crosby would have left us many years ago. And by the way, Best Wishes to Brian Wilson. If you didn't know, he cancelled his upcoming tour due to mental health issues.

Elvis

off the top of my head.....
1) Kieth Richards

5) Dickey Betts
6) Phil Lesh
7) Ronnie Wood
8) Aerosmith (half of them at least)
8) Eric Clapton

1) Keith Richards

Not so much shocked as admire their longevity:
Little Richard 86
John Mayall 85 - still touring
Sonny Rollins 88 - still active
Willie Nelson 86 - still touring extensively
Loretta Lynn 87
Wayne Shorter 86 - still performing
Yoko Ono 86

This thread was about musicians. The presence of Yoko on your list disturbs me.

Keef's only 75 ... with the organs of an 86 year old, perhaps - but still only 75. 😉

Just a pup!

leslie west

You could've made a lot of money if 20 years ago you bet that by 2017 Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Prince would all be dead, but all members of Motley Crue and Guns n Roses would still be alive.

Elvis
This reminds me of an awesome joke from a former coworker where he asks if anyone wants to see his Elvis impersonation. He then folds his hands across his chest and closes his eyes. Classic.

Shane MacGowan

Gordon Lightfoot
Garth Hudson from the Band
Bill Ward from Black Sabbath

Steve Earle
YEP.
Read his bio quite a few years back. At one point he was addicted to both heroin and freebase..........at the same time. To say he was gone would be the world's greatest understatement. And yeah, he was very close to death at one point.
Even more shocking was his comeback. He had warrants out on both drug and weapons charges and was living on the lam. One day he decided that he just could not do it anymore. He walked into a police station, put his hands out and said, "Take me."
He cleaned up in prison. He hadn't written in several years at least, the drugs robbed him of that creativity. While in prison someone gave him a guitar and, now clean, he began to play. And practice. and write. I'm not trying to make any grand statements here, but the record that came out of that period to me personally is the greatest Americana record I have ever heard: Train A-Comin'. It was nominated for a Grammy Award (didn't win, which shocks me). As soon as he got rid of the drugs, all the creative juices were loosened up again.

David Crosby for the simple fact of not having his fat ass taken out into an ally and beaten to a pulp.
Disgusting human being. I've read a lot of music bios and have never read a positive comment about his character.

Ok ok we get it you dont like David Crosby, no reason to repeatedly call for extreme violence and death to befall him. Damn!

Agreed, some time in a cellar with a Life insurance salesman seems appropriate enough.

David Crosby for sure

What makes Crosby the most surprising of all is not only is he alive but alone among his peers he is at the top of his game, And not just crankin out frisbees or performing old hits, but still exploring. Composing, producing, touring, incredibly prolific genius.
