Musician You're Most Grateful To Have Seen, Most Disappointed That You Didn't

I apologize if this has been covered before, it's a question I ask people at different concerts.
My most grateful, bearing in mind I got to see Son House and Freddie King, Tommy Bolin.
Actually slopped into that by accident. Went to see Johnny Winter, either December '73 or January '74 and one of the supporting acts was The James Gang, when Tommy was a member.
Most disappointed, not even a close second to Duane. Missed him by five months.
"Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

Grateful: SRV - Bonham- Entwistle
Disappointed: Muddy Waters
Missed Duane by 6 months....

Most Grateful - SRV, Albert King, John Lee Hooker
Most Disappointed - any of the greats I missed - Duane, Jimi, Lowell George, Zeppelin, Muddy.

most grateful: srv, michael hedges, les paul, jerry garcia, tom waits
most disappointed: zappa

most disappointed was never seeing Duane and no one else is even close
grateful to have seen Petty. was not a fan until I read his biography and became a fanatic
Grateful to have seen my favorite singer Gregg Allman 27 times , not bad considering he only played Alberta once , also grateful to have seen SRV , Muddy when I was 18 , Zappa , Tom Petty , Son Seals , Albert King , Albert Collins , James Brown , Grateful Dead , Thin Lizzy .
Disappointed I didn't see Rory Gallagher, I was to young to see many of my favorites but old enough to see Rory and never did .

I got to see Berry once, but never saw Duane.

Roy Orbison played The Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA in 1987. I thought of going to but for some reason just didn't, thinking I'd catch him next time. One year later he was dead of a heart attack at only 52 years old. I never saw him. Also regret never seeing Stevie Ray Vaughan and The Clash. I had
multiple chances to see both.
Ones I'm really glad to have seen: Miles Davis (three times), Muddy Waters (twice), Chuck Berry (once).

Grateful:
SRV....though only once
Sinatra
original Foghat reunion late '90s
Skynyrd 1987...with 5 members from the '70s)
CSNY...since it appears it won't happen again 17 years ago
The Who with Entwhistle....specifically the tour in late '90s with just John, Roger, Pete, Zak & Rabbit
Disappointed - ones I was old enough to have seen but didn't:
Grateful Dead (though I've seen virtually all the bands since 1995)
Merle Haggard
The Police (should have seen Synchronicity or the big bucks reunion tour)
Elton John (specifically the 2 times he played the Tabernacle in Atl (later saw him do a great festival set)

My first thoughts kind of surprised me- Most grateful to have seen Doc and Merle Watson at a really intimate setting in a barn somewhere near Uconn...and I kick myself for never seeing Johnny Winter, and although I saw Les Paul perform twice, I wished I had gone to see one of his weekly shows at the Iridium... good post!

Wish I had been concert going age in the 70s and 80s. Being my first concert was 1993 and I was a little late to the party on some bands I missed some things.
I don't regret not seeing the Grateful Dead with Jerry, but do wish I had seen Jerry solo (although don't think he play near me in the later years). Wish I had gone to see Plant & Page also. I don't know what year my first Mule show was, but it wasn't with Allen Woody and I know there were times they came nearby that I didn't go. And I would've liked to have seen Dio and AC/DC but for some reason I never went. I was pretty big into Nirvana in high school, but didn't go see them - would've been fun.
Happy I saw the ABB so many times in so many different venues and states, the first show being 1996. I saw Gregg solo a handful of times, but the last time I saw him April 2016 is really special now with his death just over a year later. Seeing Pink Floyd twice in 1994 was cool, but seeing Gilmour at Chicago Auditorium remains a lifetime highlight! I really didn't get into the Eagles much until recently. Seeing them in 2015, their 5th to last show with Glenn Fry, their first set was really great. Maybe something else I am forgetting.

So grateful I got to witness the genius of Duane Allman in '71.
So disappointed I didn't get to witness the genius of Jimi, Janis and Mike Bloomfield

I will window caveat "in the day"
Grateful: Dead 71/72. Neil 72. Mountain 72. Elton 74. Leon 73. Waylon 76. Mac 77. Walsh 75. ELP 75. Band 72.
Disappointed: Duane. Jim. Jimi. Dylan (would pick Blood on Tracks era). Lowell. Joni M. Derek & D's.
I missed some.... The winner here may be Hotlantatim w/ Sinatra!

Grateful: SRV
Honorable mentions: Albert King, BB King, Gregg, JJ Cale, James Brown, Bobby Blue Bland
I hopefully will see him in July but I will always feel fortunate to have seen Derek Trucks play many, many, times from when he was around 13 yrs old with dTb, the ABB, and TTB.
Most Disappointed: Duane Allman
Sure there are others, but... Duane Allman

Well, my life is seeing live music and I've seen some incredible concerts and almost all the biggies you can think of from Dylan, Stones, Who, Traffic, through punk like Ramones, Buzzcocks, Black Flag, etc. through jazz like Miles, Sonny Rollins, Marsalis, etc and funk like James Brown, Bootsy, etc. but here are the ones that really stick out:
Lou Reed
Zappa
Tom Waits
Iggy Pop
Joni Mitchell
Van Morrison
Jerry Garcia acoustic
Doc Watson
The ones I missed that I had a chance to see:
Lynyrd Skynyrd (original band): I had tickets but someone offered me a huge sum of money for them, so I sold them and figured I would catch the next tour. Never made that mistake again--I don't ever scalp tickets. Only sell/buy for cost. Karma is a b$tch
The Clash: I had tickets and got a 104 fever in college and had to miss it. Never saw them.
The ones I never had a chance to see, but would have wanted to:
Jimi
Doors
Janis
Billie Holiday
Robert Johnson

most dissapointed I missed: Duane by a long shot. No one comes close. Lowell George and Jimi, the Dead 74 or earlier
most grateful: ABB since 75, GD since 78, Zeppelin, Johnny Winter, Vassar Clements / Pete Rowan (amazing show at My Father's Place)
also, Elvin Jones, Buddy Rich, Miles, BB King, Ella, Michael Brecker to name a few

Grateful:
Ekoostik Hookah John Mullins-era
Jerry Garcia
Mick, Keith and the stones
Dave Holland
CSNY
Buddy Guy
Tom Petty
Van Halen w/ DLR
Herbie Hancock
Disappointed:
Pink Floyd post-Waters
The Who post-Moon
Bob Dylan
Zero

Most grateful to have seen:
Jimi Hendrix Experience and Band of Gypsies
Big Brother and the Holding Company W/ Janis
Vassar with Peter Rowan
Col. Bruce Hampton many times but especially with the Codetalkers !
Disappointment:
Although I had a ticket and a ride I didn’ t go to Woodstock

Such a great topic.
I have been so fortunate to have seen so many during a concert-going life beginning in 1966 (starting at my high school).
Grateful:
Duane era brothers (twice)
Lovin' Spoonful
Joe Cocker with Mad Dogs and Englishmen
SRV
Janis
The Doors
Blind Faith
The Who (right after Who's Next)
John Fogerty
Sonny Rollins
McCoy Tyner
Pink Floyd (prior to Dark Side of the Moon)
Paul McCartney
Disappointed:
Jimmy Smith (had tickets but he died a couple days earlier)
Derek & the Dominos (playing a nearby community college. It was their last show)
Missing the Allman Brothers at Watkins Glen (our troop surrendered to the elements early)
Miles Davis

Starting in the early 70's saw B.B. King ,Zappa, J. Giles, Alice Cooper, Miles, then on a Saturday
night in July of 74 saw The Brothers at the Boston garden and my whole music listing life changed forever. Walked around with a smile on my face for weeks could not believe how that music made me feel. Be hooked since. now, Mule,Derek, Susan etc..
Regrets, DUANE, Jimi, Ray Charles, James Brown. , Etta James.
,

Boy, reading through all your responses and seeing a lot of similar sense of what the good music was and is!

Most grateful to have seen Doc and Merle Watson at a really intimate setting in a barn somewhere near Uconn...
Saw Doc and Merle in a high school auditorium in the late 70's. Fantastic show.

Grateful: original ABB; Regretful: Cream

I started seeing concerts in 1982, so the great stuff from the 1960s / 1970s was never in the cards for me. But, when I think of bands or people no longer with us.....
I'm most grateful for having seen Gregg Allman, for having seen the Allmans in the 1980s and 1990s with Gregg and Dickey together. I'm also glad I got to see the Dead a number of times back then.
I'm certainly grateful to have seen the Who with Entwistle in the 1980s and 1990s, and The Replacements in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Heck, I am grateful to be alive at a time when I get to see Derek Trucks, Wilco, and Steve Hackett, my 3 favorite touring artists, at pretty small places. Back in the 1980s, I was always seeing bands in arenas or stadiums. It was a zoo. I can't believe how lucky I am to constantly see theater shows now.
I certainly did not get to see a number of amazing musicians who were before my time, but of the artists that I coulda woulda shoulda seen but missed out on in my concert-going prime for dumb reasons, I think Stevie Ray Vaughn probably takes the cake.

thats easy;
most Grateful- all the 'Original' lineups of Led Zeppelin,Allman Bros(w Duane), Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Who(w Keith), Skynyrd, Dylan w the Band, Savoy Brown, Grand Funk.
newer shows-recent ABB w Derek, Korn, Galactic, Skyrillex, Lamb of God, Shinedown, Wood Bros,13 yr old Derek playing w ABB, (and way back then again)
most of the Woodstock bands at the time-so many great ones. Also,Stones in a tiny 2000seater in Aussie when ac/dc jumped onstage too, & an early Stones tour w Mick Taylor; Genesis 1st US tour w Peter Gabriel.-there's so many w lots of fun times & a story behind every one!
most Disappointed missing; Jimi Hendrix, Blind Faith, Doors, the Beatles (brother sold my ticket)
and to add most Disappointed seeing; Joe Cocker-a few yrs aft woodstock, pissed drunk and stumbling onstage, Sly Stone-Stoned out of his mind is right, T-Rex-bunch of confusion and drunk/stoned people onstage (opening act & unknown Doobie Bros saved the show though)

Not sure where I would start...
Disappointed not being able to see Chris Whitley:( 🙁 🙁
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

My regrets are for those who I blew the chance to see, and Duane is on the top of the list. I had planned on going to see the Allmans in Painters Mill Playhouse while in college. The friend I was gonna go with did not have the $10 for a ticket, and I did not want to go by myself. I only realized a few years back that it was Duane's last public show.
I missed Johnny Johnson, but that was his fault, since he died and the show for which I had tickets was cancelled.
My favorite regret story was from someone who had a ticket to the Tampa Derek and the Dominoes show with Duane. He did something to piss his mother off, and she would not let him go.

Grateful to have seen
Merle Haggard
Derek Trucks Band
Tedeschi Trucks Band
Umphrey's McGee
Allman Brothers Band
Phish
David Gilmour
Furthur
Disappointed that I didn't
Dead 50 Night One in Chicago. I had a floor seat and talked myself out of buying it.
Levon Helm
