Mule NYE news!

That is a Home Run!

Darn happy I'm making the effort to go!

Just wait until these guests get announced. This is going to be so good.

Are they also going to cover the band who were also at Watkins Glen?

That's what the mean by "The Mule" so yes!

I hope they work up some new material and don't just play songs they have previously played by these bands but it will be great either way!

Another epic Mule show for sure!

Grateful Dead Watkins Glen Soundcheck Jam [Live Rehearsal, July 27, 1973]

Awesome news indeed. Can't wait for this! So glad I am going to this NYE show.

I hope they work up some new material and don't just play songs they have previously played by these bands but it will be great either way!
They ALWAYS work up new material on NYE. The question is whether they will just re-create the sets from Watkins Glen.

No way possible they could even dream of recreating the sets from Watkins Glen. They won't have that kind of time for one night.
My guess is there will be an hour or so set of each band... picking a handful of songs from each set that was played at Watkins Glen then an encore of "The Weight" since the Dead and the ABB both covered that as well.

I can see them doing an hour or so of each. This should be an epic show!

Actually they usually play between 3 1/2 and 4 hours of music with two set breaks on NYE. I have been at every one since they started. Only the last two years did they just play two sets but the second sets were real long. I would bet they do 1 hour and 20 minutes for each set if not 1 1/2 hours. They have gone as late as 2:20am the year they did Woodstock as the theme.

Could the guests include Dickey Betts? Gregg Allman? Derek Trucks?

Anyone thinking this would total out at 3 hours sure hasn't been to a NYE show.
Gregg has a NYE show. Butch is playing NYE show with Berry Oakley so they are out.

I can see Derek appearing and, truth be told, this would be the ideal forum for Dickey to show up

True, Watkins Glen was the height of the band's popularity -- Dickey might want to be there for that reason
I'd love to see him show up at the Jam For Duane sometime too -- held every late-Oct. in Alabama w/Brent Sibley's band The Skydogs -- that too would be a great 'forum' as you say for Dickey, as would the Mule NYE possibility
Overall doubtful, but a nice thought -- even nicer, the Watkins Glen theme -- Warren you're the man

I am listening to Winterland '73 and thinking just how good the Allmule Band with Chuck Leavell is going to be! Plus Jack!!
I am already smiling!
