Mott The Hoople

Has anyone seen the show ? Reviews please. I was at the show in the D last Friday.

No review, but have tickets for 19th April in Manchester UK. Don't think it will be as good as the 2009 and 2013 shows that I saw.

I was also at the Detroit Fillmore show. Since you were there there's no need for me to run a setlist by you except to say I thought Hunter mixed it up quite well. From the almost spoken American Pie opener to the final notes of All The Young Dudes it was a non-stop hit parade. I marveled that Hunter, Ariel Bender, and Morgan Fisher put on a stage show that belied their age. These guys are almost 80 years old. The Rant band backed it up very well.
My only complaint with the evening was the sound. This show was billed as Mott The Hoople 74 and it was 1974 loud and distorted. There was also a very audible buzzing noise throughout the night. The sheer volume at times distorted the vocals and solos.
All in all, if you're a Mott fan I think you came away pleased.
NELLIE1123, what did you think of the show?

4 nights at the NY City Winery just went up for Ian Hunter and the Rant Band - 40 Years Of Solo Songs written and performed by Ian. The 80th Birthday Celebrations on 5/31, 6/1, 6/2, and 6/3. With the last show as the celebration.

Do they play Toronto Rocks?!!

Wow! I would love to catch this tour. I saw them in the early days, 1972. Hard to remember now but I know it was The Hollywood Palladium, I believe they opened for Black Oak Arkansas believe it or not.

Curious about merch being sold at the show. Signed poster or cool shirts.

detterm...enjoyed the show but a few observations. the buzzing you heard appeared to be coming from Ariel's setup. Surprised one of the techs didn't catch it. Setlist was sweet , even got a Lounge Lizard from his first solo album. Hard to believe Ian and Morgan are pushing 80 as both were on top of it. However Ariel not so much. Thought the sound was fine but I was in the mezzanine just above the sound board....would love to attend the Winery shows.... Peace

A little off topic I know, but I caught one show at the Hollywood Palladium in the mid 70s, The Marshal Tucker Band. I can recall being amazed that the floor was hard wood and that we sat on it smoking pot while waiting for the show to begin. Living in OC, the Hollywood area was my concert HQ while in College and I thought I had been to every venue in that area 'til then...

Man I saw some great shows @ The Hollywood Palladium!! And that place could not have held more than 2,000 maxed out. How about The Faces in 1972? Damn, they were LOUD. I met Ian McLagan only a year or so before he died and he even remembered the show: "It was the only time we played there. There was a huge party afterwards...........Dylan was there, he was first to arrive and the last to leave. We did ALL sorts of drink and blow............then we went into the studio around 3:00 AM and mixed the live album. That's why the sound is so bad." I remember Stewart sticking his hand down his spandex pants and scratching his balls............half the chicks in there were wetting themselves..........
Others at the Palladium? West, Bruce and Laing, Steely Dan (opened for Black Oak Arkansas). That was the Dan's very first tour, Can't Buy A Thrill was their only record and it was all over the radio. Jeff Baxter on guitar, David Palmer lead vocals. Palmer was only on their first record I believe. Yes they were very good. They were the second act that night...........opener was Focus ("Hocus Pocus"). Steely Dan did not tour again for 20 years after that first one, became strictly a studio outfit, and of course a highly successful one.
