Motorhead frontman Lemmy dead at age 70

WHAT THE F**K RIP MOTHER*UCKER
ROCK legend Lemmy Kilmister, the hard-living founding member and frontman of the British heavy metal group Motorhead, has died at the age of 70 just two days after being diagnosed with “an extremely aggressive cancer”.
Kilmister found out he had cancer on Boxing Day — two days after his 70th birthday — and was at home with his family when the news broke, the band said in a statement on its Facebook page.
Motorhead members asked fans to celebrate the wild rocker’s life by playing his music loud and having a few drinks
“We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words,” they said
Longtime friend Ozzy Osbourne spoke of his sadness, describing Lemmy as “a warrior”.
Born Ian Fraser Kilmister in Stoke-on-Trent in 1945, Lemmy — he acquired the nickname as a schoolboy in Wales — was inspired to become a musician after seeing The Beatles in concert.
He left the band Hawkwind to form the hard-rock band Motorhead in 1975.
The band’s only constant member, he was the lead vocalist, bassist and principal songwriter.
Albums such as Ace of Spades, Orgasmatron, and Rock N’ Roll were a critical and commercial success in Britain.
Describing himself as “indestructible”, Lemmy’s appetite for sex, drugs and alcohol was the stuff of rock legend.
He famously claimed that he had been drinking a bottle of Jack Daniel’s a day since turning 30.
“Apparently I am still indestructible,” he told The Guardian in 2014, saying he would never stop playing music. “As long as I can walk the few yards from the back to the front of the stage without a stick,” he said. “Or even if I do have to use a stick.”

Was going to start a thread about this,,
Raise a glass and play it loud,

One of the best rock guys that I ever met. He was straight forward in a business full of bullshit. Lived it his way.
RIP Lemmy!
Ace Of Spades Blues

Lemmy was a rock and roll original for sure.

A pioneer. A legion. We knew he was in poor health, but I still wasn't prepared for a world without Lemmy. RIP

RIP Lemmy. I never was a Motorhead fan and know nothing about the band although they were one of the openers at a Judas Priest show I was at maybe 8 years ago. Sounded pretty much like your garden variety "speed metal".
All I can say is that given Lemmy's drinking history, I think it's quite amazing that he made it to 70 years old. He must have had internal organs made of steel. I mean, alcoholism contributed to Freddie King's early demise, and he was gone at 43. John Bonham? 32.

LOUDFASTRULES
RIP Lemmy. they sounded like the others because the others were imitating Motörhead!! listen to early Metallica or Megadeath, and it's NOWHERE near as fast. Ace of Spades was 1980. Even the skins & skaters dug some Motörhead. Played the Metroplex here in ATL in mid-eighties.
Lemmy definitely lived it like he talked it. Got in the van and headed to the next gig.
Rob, hope you are doing well as we approach 2016.

I just found out twenty five minutes ago, very sad about the news. Lemmy was a true badass motherfucker in every sense of the word. A big influence on Hard Rock/Heavy Metal. A very underrated bass player. Awesome bass lines he played in those fast paced songs. He will be missed.
RIP Lemmy

Everything Louder Then Everything Else....RIP Lemmy!
A real Rock 'n' Roll Icon. The Real Deal in a industry full of fakers and wannabees.

Late MOTÖRHEAD Frontman LEMMY Featured In Finnish Milk Commercial

Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister is featured in a new commercial from Finnish dairy company Valio. The 40-second spot was filmed just weeks before the iconic MOTÖRHEAD frontman's death at the end of last year.
The new commercial, which has just been released, is a remake of a 1990s milk ad that is well known in Finland. It shows Lemmy exiting a gas station, turning to the camera and saying, "I don't drink milk, and I never will… you asshole."
According to the Associated Press, the spot was filmed in Helsinki on December 6, shortly before MOTÖRHEAD's concert at the Hartwall Areena.
Behind-the-scenes photos from the making of the commercial can be found on the Talouselämä web site.
Valio released a statement saying that the commercial "is offered in celebration of the life of a lovely, exceptional man — a man who celebrated life so vibrantly himself."
The company added: "We were first shooting a remake of an iconic Finnish milk ad. The tone of this ad that was shot a month ago was changed to make it a heartfelt tribute, however modest. A take that came late in the shoot was selected — one of Lemmy's brilliant improv moments that was never in the script. This was our magical encounter with a great man — and we’re honoured to share it with the world. Thank you, Lemmy."
Lemmy, who just celebrated his 70th birthday on Christmas Eve (December 24), learned two days later that he was afflicted with an aggressive form of cancer. He died on December 28 in Los Angeles.
MOTÖRHEAD was revered by both metal and punk fans, and Lemmy was considered an icon for his musical talent and his embodiment of the rock and roll lifestyle.
Lemmy had been dealing with serious health issues for the past two years, including getting a pacemaker in 2013 and suffering from a hematoma in 2014. But despite 40 years of hard living and drinking, he continued to tour and record at a feverish pace.
The band was forced to cancel or postpone a number of shows last year due to Lemmy's poor health, which also forced him to cut back on his drinking and give up smoking.
