Most Memorable or Iconic Performances Seen Live

Muddy Waters 09/30/1980 University Of Alberta , I was 18 , always remembered Muddy's red Telecaster , the band was , Luther " Guitar Junior " Johnson and Bob Margolin on guitar , Pinetop Perkins on piano , Calvin Jones on bass , Willie " Big Eyes " Smith on drums and Jerry Portnoy on harmonica , what a great night it was !!
That's awesome. In the early 90s I saw something called "A Tribute to Muddy Waters" band or something like that. I think they were an opener for the ABB. I don't recall everyone who was there but I distinctly remember Margolin, Pinetop and Portnoy. They were awesome. Can't even imagine what it would have been like to see Muddy.

Bonnie Raitt @ the Santa Monica Civic in I believe 1975. The Tom Johnston Band opened and played a rocking set... Bonnie Follows and lights it up, joined by TJ about halfway through. Bonnie's set ends and she walks out on stage about 5 minutes later for an Encore holding hands with an older gentleman. "I'd like everyone here to welcome my Father, John Raitt, who is going to help me with this song" she says to the crowd. The band returns, plugs in and whips into the Broadway tune "Oklahoma"...John Raitt now has the mic and is marching back and forth across the rostrum sing " Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain, And the wavin' wheat can sure smell sweet, When the wind comes right behind the rain." I mean, I remember looking at the crowd all around as they blankly starred at this Broadway legend animatedly singing this at the top of his lungs....
That's cool. She is awesome. I have a neat story about her.
When I was in grad school at Michigan State in the late 90s early 00s, I was moonlighting for the Lansing Visitor and Convention Bureau. Something like that. Well, they did security and crowd control at Olds Stadium, the home of the Lansing Lugnuts, the Cubs single A team at the time. So they had concerts there occasionally.
Bonnie Raitt played there and I was asked if I wanted to work security. Stand around and get paid to watch Bonnie Raitt? Sure, sign me up. So I am at the main gate and I get a call on my walkie talkie. Ms. Raitt needs to be escorted to the stage. I had to go all the way out to center field where her dressing room was.
Walked her across the field to the stage which they put right behind the infield. All of her stuff was already onstage so it was just a couple of people walking. No fanfare or anything. I don't think I let her say a word because I was talking so much about how I loved her music.
Walked her up the stairs to the stage, she thanked me, little hug and off I went. Definitely a night I'll never forget.

1. Skynyrd Tribute reunion at the Omni 1987. Never heard a louder crowd than when they walked on stage.
2. ABB/Clapton - Beacon 2009 - Felt like I was floating during Why Does Love Have to Be So Sad. Absolute electricity in the air from before the show until we gathered in a blissful haze out front after.
3. Sinatra, Chastain Park, 1993 - my only Sinatra show
4. Stevie Ray Vaughn, Chastain Park, 1996 - my only SRV show
5. Super Jam, 1994, Athens GA - probably the closest thing to an iconic music event I was present for: Aquarium Rescue Unit, second ever Govt Mule show, Dave Mathews Band, Allgood Music Company, Widespread Panic (set cut short due to lightening/storm). Warren sat in with almost everyone including a Allgood for Trilogy.
6. Dave Rawlings Machine (Gillian Welch) with John Paul Jones - one of the best 5 shows I ever saw and the short window when JPJ was a part of the Machine.
I've been to so many amazing concerts (including the Byrds/Marty Stuart show a couple weeks ago), but the real iconic ones (ore ones with surprise reunions) seemed to be in the '60s and '70s.

Bob Dylan at the EMU (student union) at University of Oregon in Eugene. 1999. The show was announced on Thursday that it would happen on Monday. He had just played with Paul Simon at the Portland Race track. Ken Kesey was online with me for tickets. Bob killed it in such a small, intimate place
I have a recording of this show. First time he ever played Down Along The Cove. It smokes
