Anyone here a subscriber? Or read it? It looks interesting, I always gravitate to it at Barnes and Noble - but those crafty Brits knew ol cheapskate me would just read it at the newsstand so they shrinkwrap it. And I don't want to pay 15$ to find out it's a crappy rock rag.

I have checked it out a few times - usually comes with a free CD that is occasionally interesting. Lots of music reviews and if the cover story interests you probably a good read. But it is too expensive so I only buy it if it seems like an especially good issue.

Thoughtful and thorough articles, excellent and unusual photos, tons of album and concert reviews, quality paper that lasts durable. It is a quality mag. I don't always get every issue ($$$) but the ones I have are treasures.

I think they carry MOJO at my local community college library, because I bought a MOJO CD there for a buck called "MOJO Presents Life Companion 15 Tracks That Shaped Keith Richards". It's an awesome album, in fact I'm listening to it right now. It has the original tracks by Scotty Moore; , Chuck Berry ("Little Queenie"), Little Richard, Bo Diddley, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters ("Rollin' Stone"), Jimmy Reed- lots more great artists on here! But the coolest tune is by a guitarist named Pat Hare who played with Muddy Waters- the tune is called "I'm Gonna Murder My Baby"- man that dude really murders his guitar on that one!

I'm like you- I'm super cheap. So I quit buying magazines years ago- I just read them at the supermarket- Fred Meyer has lots of cool guitar and music mags and you can just camp out in that part of the store and they don't care. If they have a cool song in an issue of a magazine, I just photocopy it there for 50 cents. If they keep the magazine sealed (like MOJO), just see if they have it at your local library. MOJO must be cool, with a name like that... 😉 Just my 2 cents....

I have bought it from issue #1 and am a subscriber. I even had a letter published last month! Subscribing keeps the cover price down.

There's always something of interest whether it be a feature, interview, CD review or historical archive piece.

Good feature on the early days of the Byrds this month. Main feature is on Lou Reed.

The cover CDs tend to be a mixed bag. One or two have been absolute classic compilations. I usually rip them to iTunes and listen to the tracks when they come up on shuffle.

Biggest fault imo is the obsession with The Beatles. There has been countless cover features and remakes of their classic CDs - Revolver Reloaded, Let It Be Revisited etc - none of which was any good, the odd track excepted.

There are loads of classic bands which they have never featured - there has only ever been one ABB feature in almost 300 issues and I don't recall anything at all, CD reviews aside, on Trucks or Mule.

If I wasn't a long-time subscriber I probably wouldn't buy it month to month. I would miss out though on some quality features and news of new CD (re-)releases.

Got the idea to check on ebay for back issues - wasn't so interested in breaking rock music news anyway. Just looked like great rock history. Can pick and choose - looks a great Motown issue w. cd for 8 bucks, kind of thing.

Hey shavian - as a subscriber, any issues that stood out, I could search for?

Ha ha! There's only 276 issues to choose from!

Tell me who/ what you are interested in and I'll give you some pointers. Older issues may be out of print but I could scan anything you desperately want.

I don't subscribe to Mojo ... but it is the only magazine I buy regularly ... I always scan the cover and if there is any article of interest to me listed then I buy it ... it is always a good read ...

who/ what you are interested in

Roots of rock and roll, origins of scenes and eras, early blues, soul, reggae, punk. For bands or names, Maybe the best of the many Hendrix issues, also best of Zeppelin, any stuff on the supergroups - Traffic, etc.

A good friend of mine, Michael Simmons, who wrote the liner notes for the Bloomfield box, writes feature articles for Mojo. This month's was an article on the Byrds and 8 Miles High. Here's a snippet. http://www.mojo4music.com/24680/byrds-remember-eight-miles-high/
