Mike Zito (Solo), The Poor House Bistro, San Jose, CA, 2-18-16

I am really, REALLY floored, folks.
I know this guy has had his issues in the past, but what I heard last night just left my jaw dropped fully on the floor for three hours. Did I say three hours? That's right. Zito sat up there on a stool and played two sets totaling a full three hours of music and that is not including a half hour break in the middle. I mean, how hard is THAT to do? And how hard is it to captivate an audience over the course of three hours?
I never once was bored, Zito captured my imagination the entire time. Just Mike Zito and an acoustic guitar. I'm really not sure what is better, his voice or his guitar playing, because they were both just superb. Some pretty acoustic ballads, some rockin' acoustic ballads, some hard core blues slide playing.............and let me tell you, this guy REALLY knows his way around with a slide. A few choice covers: She's Nineteen Years Old, The Dark End Of The Street, Little Red Corvette (that's right, the Prince tune), Born On The Bayou, Bad Moon Rising. But mostly a ton of superb Zito originals.
I became a fan last night, let me tell you. I'd only heard Zito one time before, as part of Royal Southern Brotherhood, in Santa Cruz, must have been three years ago. So I knew he was good, but I never imagined a solo acoustic set like this.
What an enormous talent. And Mike seems to be in a really good state of mind. He's married to a schoolteacher and lives in Southeast Texas now. He said he's got five kids, I assume not all with his current wife.
I shot seven videos and will have them all on youtube eventually. One is already up there, if you want to see it, just do a search at youtube.com for Mike Zito Rob Orme. Rob Orme is me, the poster, and that will get you there. I'm at work and the version of Internet Explorer on this computer will not let me access youtube and I'm also not allowed to upgrade (I.T. only can do that). Otherwise I'd attach it to this post. But I'll have much more soon because I'm off this weekend.
I'm blown away folks. FYI, Zito is at the Boom Boom Room in San Francisco tonight. No, I'm not going again, but I'm tempted! He's also playing a private party this weekend in the Santa Cruz area, but I'm not in the loop for that one.
Go see him if he comes to your area!! www.mikezito.com
