Most "iconic"? Well, that's an "epic" term! 😉

In all of Georgia ... not that it's a better restaurant or anything, but I'd think the Varsity in Atlanta is probably better known by more generations of people. In Savannah they've got Mrs Wilke's Boarding House which has also been around for quite a while (President Obama stopped in during his last visit to Savannah).

I do love the H, though!

If you've never been to The Disco Diner in Atlanta, I highly recommend you try it out.

It is um, "interesting".... Cool

H&H was open with Momma in the kitchen just a few months ago. Bought a nice T-shirt to remember the experience.

The Pink House in Savannah is great too!

Tickled to hear it's open. I'm hoping to go down there in a couple of weeks.

It is open under new management. The moonhanger group, who runs the rookery, now runs it. I haven't been since it reopened but i ate lunch there 1-2x a week for a long time. very good.

I didn't know this would generate so many responses. If I get to Macon I'm gonna check it out

I would say, H&H for breakfast and lunches, The Rookery for dinners. The best fried mushrooms ever and the best chicken and dumplings you ever put in your mouth.

If you go to the H&H for breakfast try the breakfast chicken biscuit. It comes on a large biscuit and has pimento cheese spread on the bottom and "bacon jelly" on the top and it is wonderful!!

The Pink House in Savannah is great too!

I have been to both but my favorite is Mrs. Wilkes in Savannah. Every type of southern delicacy imaginable and the best fried chicken on the planet. The wait can be a pain. I must say that Mama's bread pudding at the H and H cannot be beaten. As for the Olde Pink House....fried green tomatoes are never a bad bet.

Hey Drummy - are those reviews of H&H recent?

I wanted to visit last time I was in town. I'm hoping the new restaurant group does great things with the place.

I used to go in the 90's and the early 2000's and witnessed the service and food quality decline.

I finally stopped going.

I've got to agree with Rusty that "iconic" would not be how I would describe the joint.

I had lunch there in Oct 2014; it was under the new management. The fried chicken was great. Mac and cheese was very good and the squash dish was good too. We did not have dessert.

We heard local people talking about eating there frequently for breakfast.

Yeah man, I was just there last September for GABBA. It has been newly remodeled and is much nicer than before. And the food is great. I have never been there when I didn't just walk right in and get served. THE place for breakfast. And, I would agree the H&H is iconic in that everyone knows about it's history with the Bros as well as just good old down home soul food.

I get three days off work, make arrangements for a motel room and rental car so I can head to Macon this weekend--and then I go to the "Big House" web site and find that they're closed Jan. 15-18.

Fudge.

Giving credit where due when I contacted "The Big House" to see if they had a schedule for upcoming months Rob contacted me and offered to do a private tour next Monday when they are normally closed. He said it's undergoing some renovations and a bit of a mess right now. Unfortunately that would have been my travel day home but that he offered to show me around on a normally closed day says a lot about the staff who run the museum.

I'll get there eventually and I'm really looking forward to seeing it, eating at H & H and in general checking out Macon.
