Wifey and I are planning to site see in Macon for a day on our way to Savannah this fall. Plan to visit the Big House, Rose Hill Cemetery, and H&H. Can anyone provide any tips, advise, insider info, etc on your experiences there? Any other sites we should visit? Thanks so much for your feedback!

There was a time when a map of all the places of interest existed here on the site...My wife and I went in 1999 and Macon is no longer a sleepy little town it was quite spread out.....But most the places of interest were pretty close together....

Have fun and enjoy....I have heard of people getting hassled at the grave sites but don't know if that still happens...The only place I couldn't find was the archway with Berry in the middle of everyone standing like JC

Put in the search term "trip to macon" and set to the beginning and you will find many previous threads on this topic:

The Bond monument is adjacent to the RR tracks toward the northerly limit of the cemetery (there is a dirt cul-de-sac leading to it):

http://www.rookerymacon.com/ - Restaurant/bar with meals named after Gram Parsons, The Allmans, and Johnny Jenkins. I think there may be some memorabilia as well, but I have the memory of a sald.

Good luck.

And to get to the place where Berry stood you have to walk down the stairs and then look left to the back of the Bond monument. If you can go to Macon for GABBAfest that is the best time since there is always a lot of people there who know where everything is, it's next weekend so hope to see some of you there.

Just a follow-up. We had a great trip. Stopped in Macon on our way from Charlotte to Savannah. Went to the Big House first. Words cannot describe the spirit of the band that fills you in the house. Was bummed to find that H&H is closed on Sundays, but the trip to Rose Hill made up for it. So glad I finally got to make this trek. Anybody out there debating... just do it! Smile
