Well, I'm gonna see these 3 here in Dallas tonight. They're playinag as part of the Bo & Jim Bash. Bo & Jim are the morning DJ's on the classic rock station here, which is Lonestar 92.5. This is the 4th annual bash, and I'm looking forward to it. I've seen Skynyrd & Eddie Money, but I haven't seen Blue Oyster Cult yet. I'll be wearing my More Cowbell t shirt tonight!!

I am contemplating attending the Rock, Ribs, & Ridges fest later this month in NJ. I haven't seen BOC since the '80's. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts post show. Buck Dharma (Donald Roeser) is a great player. They were regulars at the Capitol Theatre in NJ and would play in NY as Soft White Underbelly. I caught the at Lemour's East in Brooklyn in the early '80's and loved it. I was looking to go tape the CDB & Artimus Pyle on Sunday, but these guys are there on Saturday.

strange lineup

Why is that?. skynyrd [the real one] and blue oyster were on the same bill together in the mid 70s, probably eddie monkey too.

i guess you are right. all 3 were big in the 70's.

If they haven't titled this Festival, I can help them out: "Haven For Has-Beens"

Actually I saw BOC five years ago (for free) and they weren't all that bad. They're playing The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk again this year, again for free, in August and I might even check them out. The current Skynyrd and Money? OUCH

Well, the show was pretty good last night. BOC played first and were really good, other than a bit of a sound issue. Buck Dharma's an awesome player. Eddie Money was next and was pretty good to. Can't hit the high notes as well anymore, but was still pretty good. He had his son and daughter with him in the band playing guitar and singing backup. Skynyrd closed the show and kicked ass!! I know they're not anywhere near the original band, but I really enjoyed them last night. Here's the setlist from all 3 bands:

Blue Oyster Cult:
The Red & the Black
Golden Age of Leather
Burnin' for You
Career of Evil
Then Came the Last Days of May
Godzilla
(Don't Fear) The Reaper
Cities on Flame With Rock and Roll

Eddie Money:
Baby Hold On
We Should Be Sleeping (preceded by band intros)
Walk on Water
No Control
Trinidad
Let's Get Out of Here (sung by Eddie's son & daughter)
Take Me Home Tonight
I Want to Take You Higher (Sly & The Family Stone cover) (Jesse Money (Eddie's Daughter) on vocals)
Think I'm in Love
Two Tickets to Paradise
Encore:
Shakin'

Lynyrd Skynyrd:
What's Your Name
Still Unbroken
Gimme Back My Bullets
Don't Ask Me No Questions
The Needle and the Spoon
I Need You
That Smell
Saturday Night Special
Simple Man
Mississippi Kid
Tuesday's Gone
Gimme Three Steps
Call Me the Breeze (J.J. Cale cover)
Sweet Home Alabama
Encore:
Free Bird

Did Skynyrd still do the medley instead of full songs on Bullets, Needle, etc...?

Pretty impressed if they did all of I Need You.

I saw double bills of Rush and Blue Oyster Cult in 74, 75, 76... two of those years anyway.

The first year Rush opened for Blue Oyster Cult. The next year they reversed. One of the shows was in Dothan, Alabama. The other was either in Mobile or Macon.

They were both great shows. Did everything a teenage boy would have wanted them to do.

I'd go see Blue Oyster Cult again if it were easy.

I'm sorry I missed Rush a couple weeks ago. I'm just not very into the Sheds anymore.

I've never been a Money man. I'm not knocking him. I am a fan of both Skynyrd & BOC. I 1st saw BOC with Foghat at MSG 1980 and never saw RVZ having 1st caught Skynyrd in 1987 during the 10 Year tour at the Meadowlands Arena in NJ. I accept the changes that life deals us all. Ed King was with them and they rolled Allen Collins out in a wheelchair for a round of applause. Johnnie doesn't have that same grit or snarl that Ronnie had. RVZ was a natural character. Thay had a nice thing going. Horrible tragedy. RIP. Rickey Medlocke and Hughie have been good opposite Gary. Even the 3rd guitar in every era had something to say. Gary still has that country honk. I haven't seen them since Hughie at the Roseland. I have watched a few live shows on TV. That Red, White, & Blue song is a little hokie, but I liked it. I'm just a blue collar donkey just paying the bills trying to live right. Some of it is intolerable, but some stuff is good. I wouldn't not see them?

BOC was great for a while. I like the setlist. I love that tune The Red And The Black. Always nice guitar work. Before The Kiss, A Red Cap. Stairway To The Stars, Harvester Of Eyes. Cities On Flame. I love uniqueness in music. A risk, a gamble, an innovation. I can't stand chordal rhetoric. BOC is alright. Thanx for the review. I may have to do both days and go see them on Saturday? It depends on some things.
