Nice. 75 by far my favorite era. Bullets tour was ultra tight, lean clean, compressed, punchy, real different sound for a little while, glad I caught them live just then and in 74. Not as fun and wild as the mayhem of 74, but way more sinister and sleek, hit you in the guts, great great sound.

Actually Werner “I Ain’t The One” came first. The 75 version of the band was great because it showed what a formidable duo Collins and Rossington were without Ed King or Steve Gaines for that matter. The bootleg Live From Cardiff, Wales is From this tour. It has been officially released and a must for Skynyrd Fans. The Old Grey Whistle Test in its entirety is included in the Deluxe Edition of Give Me Back My Bullets. I loved that record and told Leon so. I believe Ronnie wasn’t fond of it because it wasn’t as successful as the first two records. Of course then they found the gem that was Steve Gaines. Oh what could have been... 🙁

I feel exactly the same. Ed King was still on guitar during this period. There's a great youtube video of them in Asbury park during the Gimmie Back my Bullets tour. Hard edged and concise. Weird how some bands you want to hear the album version note for note and others you welcome the improv.

Ok I got a little confused with some of the comments concerning timelines, personnel, etc. Ok the 75 tour which I would assume was the infamous Torture Tour. Ed King was there for some of it, but left during and obviously before the European leg with the Old Grey Whistle Test and the Cardiff Show. Skynyrd returned home and THEN recorded Give Me Back My Bullets which was released in February of 76. They hook up with Gaines later in 76, the live album, Street Survivors, then the plane crash in October of 77. I hope this helps y’all’s as well as my understanding. It’s heck getting old. 😛

Nice. I had seen the original line-up at least twice in the Bay Area (maybe 3) @ Winterland for sure. Never saw Steve Gaines play. ..... Saw this for the first time ever the other day and was shocked to see Rossington playing the slide part. I always thought and would have sworn that was Gaines playing ...

The first 2:35 of the above video is Gary Rossington talking about how Gaines became a member of the Band. Good story teller; worth a listen.
