`Liz Reed' In A Movie

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the use of `Liz Reed' in the 2023
film, `The Holdovers'. It's the studio version and the movie is set in late
1970 so they got that right. But this is a first for Dickey's masterpiece, no?
I didn't think he would ever let anyone mess with his baby. I fear, however,
that commercial use is next, sadly.

Hadn’t known that, thx for the heads-up - artists do that every so often - recall Cadillac auto TV commercials being set to Led Z’s song Rock n Roll early 90s or so - one time the Temps/mayb 4 Tops sang one of their hits for a Velveeta cheese commercial
one of the first things Dickey wrote - so love the ISouth version featured in the film - am partial to studio versions of songs most of the time, incl madam Reed
will have to check into that flick

Watched that movie a few weeks ago. Good movie & even better when IMOER was played.

@martind28 I haven't seen the movie but plan to.
The Idlewild South studio version is often overlooked because the live At Fillmore East is such a powerful and dazzling performance.
But if you listen carefully to the original studio version, it too is a masterpiece. The musicians are extremely tight and polished, in tune creative.
The first things I notice is the sweeping bass line Berry Oakley displays during the beginning passages. One drummer and Butch Trucks is letter perfect to the end. Jaimoe play congas on this version rather than drums.
Dickey's guitar solo is first and I just recently realized it is one of Dickey's BEST solos. It's one of the best solos period no matter the guitar player.
Gregg's organ solo is top notch. And Duane has a fine rolling solo too.

Great movie that will get overshadowed by Oppenheimer on Oscar night. Giamatti is brilliant.
And a spot on soundtrack for that genre and time period - filled with the more B side cuts so IMOER fits perfectly.
I actually thought it was the LAFE version given how full and energized it sounded.

Great movie. I was extremely psyched with Liz Reed came on. My wife laughed at me a little. Maybe more than a little.
Overshadowed by the AFE version, but if it wasn't for that it would get a ton of air time.

@stormyrider Interestingly the studio version of Liz Reed was chosen to be on the 1991 release of hits by the Allman Brothers Band. Titled "1969-1979 A Decade Of Hits" this archival CD contains at least one track from all of the ABB's Capricorn albums.
Also the release has sold over two million copies becoming the fourth platinum (one million or more copies sold) by the Allman Brothers. The other three are At Fillmore East, Eat A Peach and Brothers and Sisters.
This is the release that irritated Butch Trucks because the band no longer received a royalty from their Capricorn albums but the writers did!! So Gregg and Dickey had a financial windfall and Butch said he got NOTHING but would have for writing the drum parts and solo for In Memory of Elizabeth Reed since it appears on this archival release but he was shut out by Dickey and when Butch went to Duane, Duane sided with Dickey saying whoever brings a song to the band it uses gets the writing credit and the changes the band members make to the song is the arrangement.
Butch did admit the same thing happened to Whipping Post which was a slow ballad when Gregg showed it to the band and the bass intro and bass line Berry added to it and the new time signature and drum parts Butch brought to it were not considered part of the writing by Duane but arrangement.

Made my day when I heard it while watching the movie. My favorite movie in a long time and IMOER just added to the vibe.
