Let's all let Dickey be Dickey

Saw Dickey at the Beacon Wednesday and, tonight, at the St. George Theater.
No, this isn't the Dickey Betts of five, ten or almost 50 years ago (when I FIRST saw him).
BUT.. it really IS so great to see him out there again (possibly for the last time but who knows), and he seems to be generally humbled by the opportunity.
The show this evening in Staten Island was recorded for what may be cable (or DVD) use from what I was told by one of those involved.
If it ever sees the light of day, you all will see a pretty neat performance by one of the all time living legends. (Pretty interesting to watch as the rust slowly falls off).
For those who are still unhappy that Dickey isn't Dickey anymore, let's ask this:
What would all of us give to see Gregg just one more time?
Well Dickey is here and he wants to play for us. It's all part of his (and our collective) history, for whatever the perceived results may be.
Back in the early 80's, I had the opportunity to see Miles Davis turn his back to the audience and blow a few substantial, but stingy notes, during a much too brief performance at Lincoln Center in NYC.
Yet today, I am not hesitant to tell anyone that I ONCE saw the great Miles Davis!
I was happy to see Dickey for the 100th +(and maybe last) time tonight, and couldn't help but think that there must be someone here near me who will proudly tell their grandchildren that they had , for just ONE rainy summer night, THE OPPORTUNITY to see the GREAT Dickey Betts!

CharlieO! right on man!

I too heard Miles Charlie O, early 70s in Tampa of all places on tour with Stevie Wonder.
When they are gone they are gone a long time.

Saw Dickey at the Beacon Wednesday and, tonight, at the St. George Theater.

We only get upset when we know he can do better and people say, well he just can't do it anymore, we know he can and like that line from the ole Skynyrd song I Know a Little, we want to say "baby I want your best", and when he comes out on that stage, he should be ready to give it, because we know he can.
