Look, I ain’t no musician, but I love music, I worked teeny bit as roadie on the grunt work side. I am semi interested in equipment, I think I got a legitimate question here. 2 days ago, I listened to Leslie West and Mountain a lot, we all know of Leslie’s tone, killer sustain, melodic power etc. Why don’t we see more of the greats playing these things?i think maybe Mark Farner used one?.............Thanks...........joe

Here is the late Gary Moore with one. Noticed it over the weekend. Gary can smoke Leslie West and Mark Farner so you've probably never seen a Les Paul Jr. played like this.

Did a little reading, they look simple, but what a nice little piece of wood and wires they are?

Dang it blackey, I am familiar with Your tastes and was excited about this one, linka noa worka? Maybe I can track it down elsewhere, with a title? I saw Gary in '83the tour with Ian Paice on drums, they opened for Def Leppard and were excellent, Leppard, 1 of only 2 bands I've left early on!!!

Crazyjoe. I just tried it and it worked for me. Hmmmm. It is a Les Paul , Jr. Also Devon Allman in Allman Betts Band played a Jr. a lot when I saw them early this year before the virus stopped their tour.

Click on that thing again. It keeps working for me.

crazyjoe. When researching the Jr., did you see anything about Les Paul's involvement? When Gibson decided to redesign the Les Paul in 1961, Les Paul wasn't consulted. When Les saw it, he didn't like it. Les contacted Gibson and said this is not the guitar he designed. The body, neck, controls etc are not Les' basic design. So Les told Gibson to take his name off the guitar. Gibson liked the design and felt it would sell so they designated the instrument SG.

Hit the link where I quoted You and played fine!!! Man, no way to overstate here, no way to be prepared when that link plays!!! Always such a thrill when You see an art form being done as well as it possibly can, started with 45 seconds of jazz from hell, drifted into a couple of other styles and finished with straight hats rock from hell, for the last minute of the clip my heart was fluttering and having little arythmias and sh!t!! This some bad sh!t! 😉

I was listening to Mountain about a month ago and was thinking the same thing about that guitar.

That and the old Les Paul Customs with P90's

The difference between a Les Paul with mahogany body and maple cap top and an LP Junior, being no maple, solid mahogany, is why they sound different. JR is deeper, darker, ballsier, especially coupled with mean P90's.

Also an LP Special is a more direct comparison to an LP, with dual PU's. A 2 PU Junior if you will.

You'll find a Gibson Melody Maker and a TV Jr at the heart of Lou Reed's Rock n Roll Animal.
Before this there was no 'arena rock'. Wagner and Hunter and Prakash John

The three of them run deep in rock n roll, they are worth looking up
if you haven't yet.

Here's a snip of an interview.

But there is lots more out there.
RnR Animal
