Lengthy Derek and Susan Interview

"How many former members of TTB are there? "
He may be referring to the horn players that left when talking about the egos and narcissism. I searched and searched and never found one announcement or statement of Maurice and Saunders leaving and Ephraim, Elizabeth, and Alecia joining. Not a word.

I think ex-TTB trumpet player Maurice Brown is a very talented guy, but I definitely saw him take some gratuitous, and maybe, unplanned or "non-directed" solos during live shows. More than once I swore it saw Derek raise his eyebrows or Susan shrug when he went off. Could have been my imagination, or maybe not. Maybe the departed horns felt like their skills were underutilized, or they weren't getting enough spotlight. Super talented musicians usually have super sized egos and don't like to be told what to play or when it's their turn.

I don't think there was an announcement. I think they try to handle their business like bands did in the pre-internet days when every change didn't require a special note on their website or a press release.

The last few years of The Brothers were difficult for the devoted fan base as well as Derek and Warren. Frustration over no new original material since 2003 was a sore point for me. Gregg's uncertain health and fewer and fewer shows on the calendar each year definitely hampered my enthusiasm for the band. The spirit of The Brother's now resides with The Tedeschi Trucks Band . I'm thankful for their active touring schedule and their constant creativity . The new album is terrific and the shows are phenomenal . Songs such as ' Laugh About It' whether listening to the new album or hearing it live resonate with my listening tastes in a huge way. I can't help but think about Don't Keep Me Wondering when I hear Laugh About It.
