"Leap Jessica"

Someone gave me a mountain of music that I have yet to listen to, so something new often pops up on my music library. Today it was "Leap Jessica" by Lisa Harris, an all piano ballet-style take on "Jessica". Nice way to start the day.

This reminds me, if anyone has never heard Rolling in the Hey's bluegrass take on "Jessica", here it is
For good measure, here is They Might Be Giants' version on accordion:

That's a lot of alt Jessica !

Great call on the 'Hay!
Having lived in Birmingham for most of my life, I've had many opportunities to catch those guys. Amazing players with a diverse and seemingly endless setlist. "Renegade" versions of songs you'd never imagine and straight-up versions of bluegrass standards (Bill Monroe, Louvin Bros, Ralph Stanley et al).
They play as either a trio, or with a drummer (Electric Hay).
Bandleader (?) Rick Carter is an Alabama legend. At various times, he (in one of his many band formats) have opened for Bob Dylan, Gregg Allman and others. His bio/life story is at once amazing and amusing. He has stories of chauffeuring/valeting James Brown to playing behind and dining with Gatemouth Brown ("he put Welch's grape jelly on everything!").
He has a new CD full of terrific songs that I highly recommend: http://www.rickcartermusic.com/
Buy it and try it. If you don't like it I'LL refund your money! 😉

Rick was awesome in when he played in Telluride. Remember them well at Lee's Tomb while at The University. They opened with Done Somebody Wrong.

Telluride still plays shows on occasion and they're still a great band! Rick has rereleased all their LPs (vinyl and CD). Dig those out, too. That music stands against anything that anybody's putting out these days.
Telluride was another of those acts that stood on the cusp of greatness and national acceptance. Personally, I think the fact that they received so little local airplay (stations opting instead for bands like Train and the "corporate rock" movement) was a factor in their only "almost fame". They play an incredible full electric version of "Jessica" also!

Playing May 6 in Birmingham. Used to see them at Louie Louies when I lived there. (1985-86)
