New Orleans’ Saenger Theatre will play host to a special celebration of The Band’s The Last Waltz on April 30 featuring musical director Warren Haynes and Don Was. Joining the ensemble will be John Medeski, Jamey Johnson, George Porter Jr., Dave Malone, Ternce Higgins, Mark Mullins and more to be announced. The evening will also serve as a tribute to Allen Toussaint, who arranged the horn charts for the iconic 1976 concert.

Previous tributes held by Blackbird Presents include the 2014 tribute to Dr. John and last year’s tribute to the music of The Neville Brothers.

Tickets will go on sale March 25 at 10 AM CT via Ticketmaster

Hemp you know that is Jazz Fest? You better book a room. The town is going to be hopping. There is tons and tons of music going down. The Fairgrounds during the day and the night time gigs are sinister.

Good move Hemp. I've got a couple great friends who will be there. I can get you contact info. I know they are planning on blasting off at Joe Russo's Almost Dead the same night as your show. One of them used to be the desert chef at Commander's Palace. Now he is a chocolatier. Pretty good guy to know.

After meeting you in NYC I'm happy to vouch for your character. 😉

Go to Off Beat Magazine then check out "Jazz Fest Night Listings". My Chef buddy says you should buy tickets as soon as you decide. He has been to more than 25 Jazz Fests.

If you want I'll PM you his phone number. He's a good guy to know.

Friday I'd have a tough choice between Los Lobos and the Funky Meters. Seeing as you are in NOLA I'd go to Tipitinas for the Funky Meters. It don't get much better than that. And I would buy my ticket soon.

But that's just me. You have at least 4 other choices of darn good shows. That's just on Friday.

Sunday you have Oteil and Friends at 3am at the Maple Leaf Bar. That will be great!

You also have Sonny Landreth and Tab Benoit at the Rock "n" Bowl or Voodoo Dead II at the Republic. I think I'd do Voodoo Dead just because Tab will probably drink too much cognac.

Sometimes that just happens. I had nothing going on this week. I was complaining I was getting behind in my live shows. A buddy calls me to tell me he is going to see Bonnie Raitt at the Kennedy Center on Saturday. I ask about an extra ticket but his wife is going. I pull up the web site and there are 7 tickets left. I snatch an orchestra box seat at the Kennedy Center! Wow.

Then I pull up the Moody Blues show in Richmond for Friday. Good Friday in Richmond and their are an abundance of seats. I'm just going to drive down and see what they have on Friday. As it stands I can get 14th row center right or second row loge. I expect they will have better on Friday.

Boom. Weekend full. Cool

"Due to the fact that "Last Waltz New Orleans: A Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of The Last Waltz" sold out so quickly, a second night has been added. Set to take place Friday, April 29th at New Orleans' historic Saenger Theatre, the all-star event pays tribute to The Band's milestone final concert through unprecedented performances from an extraordinary line up of artists led by GRAMMY® winning producer/musician Don Was and visionary GRAMMY® winning vocalist-songwriter and guitar legend Warren Haynes. The line-up also includes lead members of The Allman Brothers Band, Gov't Mule,The Radiators, The Meters, Bonerama, and many more.

"Last Waltz New Orleans: A Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of The Last Waltz" will also serve as a singular memorial to the late

Allen Toussaint, showcasing the powerful horn charts the great New Orleans musician created for 1976's original Last Waltz concert."
