Laid Back

Laid Back is a wonderful album. Gregg's best solo recorded to me. 1973 was the pinnacle year commercially for the ABB family record wise. Brothers and Sisters was number 1 for 5 weeks and sold over 4 million copies. Ramblin' Man made it to number 2 on the singles chart and Midnight Rider cracked the top 20. The Laid Back version Gregg said was much closer to how he wrote the song. The Allman Brothers made a lot of changes to it and several of Gregg's songs which he never really liked. Laid Back sold about 700,000 copies and earned a gold record while B&S was platinum times 4. They never had another year like that.
Gregg had another gold album, I'm No Angel and the Allman Brothers went gold with Where It All Begins in the 80s and 90s. That was about it after the 1970s. The ABB did have a 2x platinum release in 1991 but it was a collection of old songs off the first 5 albums plus Crazy Love off the 8th album.

Laid Back is a wonderful album. Gregg's best solo recorded to me.
Totally agree. Great mix of songs start to finish.

Awesome write-up on an awesome record. Thanks.
