Well, I've just started listening to this band. Have been aware of them, but never heard any of their music or saw them live. Have listened to the first 4 albums so far, and they're awesome!! Definitely a unique band that doesn't sound like anyone else, and none of the songs sound the same. Great singing and playing!!
Gretchen Goes To Nebraska is one of my top ten albums of all time. Ironically I'm not a huge fan of the rest of their work. From those who are fans Kings X supposedly put on great shows. GGTN is sublime! 
Great band, I got turned onto them in the late 80's.
Dug Pinnick is a MONSTER bass player, and has great tone.
He has some projects outside of the band that you should check out. The man is a talent.

Yeah I agree about TY. They almost seem like two differnt bands at times. WHen Dug sings they are heavy rock machine. When Tabor is on vocals they tend to pull back and lighten up.
I prefer Dug's approach.
