Kim Simmonds battling cancer

Sad to hear that Kim Simmonds has been battling stage 4 cancer for a year. I've seen Savoy Brown many times. Kim is a fabulous guitar player. My dad turned me onto them 25 years ago. Some great tunes in their catalog. Their latest album Not Done Yet has some excellent songs on it. Below is a post from his website informing fans of his health. Prayers for him.

Man that is sad news. I had tickets to see him this month but they cancelled the show back in May due to unspecified surgery at the time. Now we know what Kim has been fighting.
I was a late adopter of Savoy Brown and over the past 5 years I purchased all of their albums on used vinyl and CD up to and including The Boogie Brothers.
Even with constant lineup changes all of those albums are excellent IMHO.
They are now one of my favorite bands.
I wish Kim the best of luck fighting that terrible disease and hope he gets back onstage someday.

Sad news, indeed. I never got around to seeing Savoy Brown perform live before 2015 but I did manage to see them perform live as a trio 4 or 5 times between 2015 and 2019. Always a great show from start to finish. I've purchased the past 7 or 8 albums they've released since around 2014 and every one of them has been a great listen all the way through. I'd hoped to get the chance to see them perform live again after the past 2 years of COVID kept me away from attending concerts but it seems like Kim Simmonds probably won't be returning to the stage.
At least there's a new album to look forward to hearing.

Hope he responds to the treatment and makes it back to the stage. He reminded me a little of Billy Gibbons.

Sad news.

If you like the "Lookin In" album I highly recommend all of there 1960/ 70's albums up to and including "Boogie Brothers". You can get them as two albums on single CD reissues on the BGO label which are great deals and sound fantastic. You can find them on eBay for the price of a single album. Great way to collect those early albums.
If you like live albums there is an excellent live 2CD compilation titled "Hellbound Train Live 1969-1972". It is evidently out of print but used copies can had at reasonable prices if you are patient.

Back in August ,1972, my older brother and I drove from Cape Cod to Boston to see my first concert, a show at The Common billed as The British Invasion. Opening act was Rory Gallagher. Second act was Fleetwood Mac. And headliner was Savoy Brown. Rory then became my second favorite artist , after the Allman Brothers, of course, who we discovered in 1969. It was a fabulous day. It was then I began to follow Savoy Brown more closely. But over the years they kind of fell off my track. Until 1996, when I saw them live at a small club outside Minneapolis. What a great show; at that time they were a trio. Kim was very approachable and after the show I got his autograph. I bet I saw them every year thereafter. I even arranged for Kim to do a solo show one year while living in Springfield, IL. We kind of became friends, and I know he recognized me in subsequent years when we would talk after his show. I have autographed copies of nearly every CD they put out, and they are prized possessions.
I sometimes observed a similar style of Kim and Duane. It was after hearing Duane's solo on YDLM from AFE for about the millionth time. I just thought the clarity of Duane on that solo was similar to the clarity Kim often has on his songs. I don't know if SB ever was billed with the Allmans, I have never seen that. But Kim did play on bills with Rory and shortly after Rory passed Kim autographed " For Rory" on my Boogie Brothers CD.
I was so disheartened to read about his health issue on the SB web site and appreciate the author noting it here. With Duane , Berry, Butch, Rory and Gregg gone, Kim is one of my last remaining guitar heroes. I just want to note what a perfect gentleman he has been to fans over the years. He has been working on an autobiography, and looking for a publisher. I so hope he can publish this.
I second the suggestion of picking up the old SB albums or CD's where you can. Was really happy to see Warren cover Street Corner Talking on the bonus CD of Heavy Load Blues. The Chris Youiden era is probably my favorite, and Chris did some great solo work after he left SB. There has been lots of band turnover over the years, but every version has some great stuff. ( even the Ralph Morman years!) Enjoy, and join me in wishing Kim the best with his treatment.
