Journeyman

One of the most underrated albums out there?
It's like the light at the end of the 80's tunnel.
I heard Pretending on XM radio and immediately had to play the whole album.
I'm up to Alibis to far.
I forgot how strong this is. And it lead into 24 Nights which is a great live album too. The cut of Old Love on the live album is sublime.

yep
For me the Journeyman album is when Clapton came back to life. I saw him that tour and he was fantastic

Very good release from him. It's interesting after you pull a cd out from a long good bye and sometimes your ears will hear things differently and, wow, this is really good stuff, or you forget how great it is and you appreciate it even more.
Around the 4th of July we had a party and I wanted to make a playlist, so I decided to do one from Clapton that was just from the mid 80's ,Behind the Sun till current todays stuff. Any collaboration, live and whatever else I could find of him during that time frame also. Cant name all the songs from there, but it turned out real well. I really like his 2010 release, Clapton, good stuff on there.
Well I did cheat a little, had to put a few some songs from "There's One In Every Crowd."
That's my fav of his 70's stuff.
I like the live versions of Pretending and Bad Love from 24 Nights.
Speaking of Pretending, A few years ago Tinsley Ellis released "Midnight Blue", it has a song on there called "Harder To Find", it reminds of Pretending a little, tempo is slower.

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

It is underrated now, but at the time, it sold a ton of copies.
You are right, though, there is some great stuff on it. I really like "Hard Times."
It is certainly loaded with catchy pop tunes, but he both sings and plays with real authority. Those leads burn. It also has a real looseness to it, like on "No Alibi." The solo on "Bad Love" has some really cool bends.

LOVE "Journeyman" , and IMO Clapton's last really great studio album. Absolutely love "Bad Love". His guitar solo on that is amazing and Phil Collin's drum solo is also amazing. I remember EC doing some cool TV appearances for that album, and performing "Pretending" which I also adore on "Saturday Night Live". He also showed up unanounced on Showtime's weekly live comedy showcase to play with Nathan East whose house band was part of the show every week,
I will probably catch sh** for this, but besides "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" which is my favorite EC album, I am a HUGE fan of EC's 80's albums which he collaborated alot on with Phil Collins who produced, co-produced and played drums on many of those albums including "Behind The Sun", "August", and "Journeyman". Thought they really pushed each other in the best way , brought out the very best in one another, and their playing was full of fire and just top class. I also loved EC's band then including Phil Collins, Nathan East & Gregg Phillinganes.

Live Aid was a great day for Clapton. He really reminded people of who he was and what he was still capable of.
I've said it before and will repeat it here: EC does not come to my mind when I'm listing my Top 10 Guitarists, but his MSG show in Oct 1994 was the best concert I've seen.
