thanks!!

thank jackfrost he put the word out on this. I had no idea. Its as good Jorma as you are going to hear, strictly pro audio and visual. Great close ups of fingers, cameragirl knows the songs well.
I caught the first one - really nice.
It is fun too, not just a concert, but he answers listener questions between songs, has that oldtime radio vibe - also great guitar gearhead talk, hangin with Jorma!

Listened to both shows, great stuff
Acoustic In the Kingdom followed by Good Shepard
Nice version of Genesis
Still waiting on 3rd Week in the Chelsea (never saw that live either)

He was knockin himself out on Brother Can You Spare a Dime, that was some crazy hard chordwork and phrasing. . So great to see him challenging himself like a student - the guy is just a great, great, GREAT guitar player.

Thanks for posting, both shows were awesome! I agree, Jorma is one of the best fingerpickers of all time, he is always great, but these shows prove he still has his mojo powers, even in his mid seventies! It's fun to play along and I'm learning new songs just by watching. Looking forward to the next "episode"...

Jorma playing again - this Saturday April 18, 8 pm EST
Same Tuna time, same Tuna channel

Another great one!

No doubt! Nice laid back Airplane style jam on "Ballad of Easy Rider" .
Repeated "Water Song" a bunch of rounds with enough close ups for anyone to learn it.
Did you catch the microphone shock when they hooked up the old Fender amp?
Word from Vanessa at the end was the gigs will continue every Saturday night until "the seige" is over.

Its been a regular saturday nite thang,,, alway back with Jorma.. from the airplane days to Fuckin Hot Tuna, and all the rest,,Great shows every sat nite... soon.......

Great stuff. I love the quality and format.

Tonight's was my favorite one yet

Thoroughly enjoyable series! He had the heavy guitar artillery lined up tonite - there must have been a quarter million $ worth of lumber on that stage, not counting collector value. That Martin M-5 was SWEEEEET.
Loved the story about Garcia saying "You moron" to Jorma for killing himself trying to do Blind Blake's "Police Dog Blues" in standard tuning. Reminded me of when my brother and I were at Fur Peace Ranch and they had an open mic - my brother played "Little Martha" in standard tuning. He pulled it off, Jorma dug it, but man he was making life difficult for himself for a few minutes there.

Amazing Third Week In The Chelsea tonight. And I still can't believe he broke out Wolves & Lambs! One my favorite songs of his from his 1979 self titled Jorma album (an album worth seeking out)

^^^
I had that album at one time - was the casualty of one of my many moves and times. 🙁
Haven't seen the whole thing yet but living it so far. Got my 3rd week!!
Curious about the Police Dog Blues story - he said that E tuning is hard on a guitar. I'm guessing it's because there is more tension on the strings.
Doesn't Derek play everything in E? I thought Duane played almost all slide in E.
Is the stress different on an electric?

Too much tension bows the neck, on acoustic, pulls up at the bridge and the body caves in around the soundhole. Acoustic guitar tops are super thin.
Same stress on electric, but the body is solid, can't cave in. The necks will bow but that can be corrected.

thanks
what tuning does Derek use on acoustic?

what tuning does Derek use on acoustic?
No clue. It isn't a guitar taboo or anything - People use open E all the time - it takes a while for the damage to kick in. When you have priceless axes like Jorma does you begin to worry about ratcheting up the tension.

Bump for the Jorma Show...(You don't want to miss this!)

Another great one. The wife and I listened while sitting outside by the fire.
Mann’s Fate was nice, so was Don’t Go Gentle. It’s all great
It was funny to hear Jorma jokingly apologize for his only repeat so far - Water Song. One song that should never need an apology is Water Song.
Can’t wait till next week

Those were dolphin-friendly for sure.

These have been better each week-great music and general good times.

Each episode is like a brand new guitar lesson from a master. This one had some great classic blues- I especially liked Keep On Truckin' and How Long Blues .
BTW, here's a link to the bizarre radio commercials Jefferson Airplane made for Levi's white jeans:
Sounds like it could be Jack Cassidy on the second one...

Another great show
By my recollection, the only 2 repeats in 8 shows have been Water Song and I See the Light
Amazing
