John Prine Stories

The family spent its summers in Paradise, where bluegrass was big, leading John to study Doc Watson–style fingerpicking with his older brother, Dave.
It wasn't until John heard Dylan that he saw a future for himself as a songwriter.
"By the time Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash hooked up [for Nashville Skyline], that's when I thought, 'Man, there's something there where their two paths crossed. My stuff belongs right in the middle.'"

That first article is a great read. It is amazing to me just how many people don't know who John Prine is.

John Prine is a small piece of Americana. We've got some special song writers that can paint a story with words. Here's a recent show I saw in the city. This Gent opened for Band Of Heathens at the City Winery. I love the intimate 300ish seat venue which normally has a respect for the artists that reflects in their silence while they play. Well sadly not for John Prine covers. I found this song to be wrenchingly beautiful, it's just sad that folks don't respect the artists or the other fans that don't care about your chit chat BS when you go see live performances. There's a time and place for everything. Please focus on Reed Foehl and his beautiful version of Mexican Home.

Great article. Thanks. The "John Prine" album is one of my favorites.
