Excuse the little montage open. First song is a smoking instrumental with fantastic guitar picking. Don't miss Apache. Wonderful guitar version then heavy Hendrix seque into national anthem.

I saw Jimmy several times in the 1970's when he was with The Nighhawks. After Gregg Allman and Cher split and before the Allman Brothers got back together in 1978, Gregg toured with The Nighthawks. I caught that tour in Atlanta and Gregg was part of the band. Came out with them on organ and played their entire set. Later some music mags wondered if he was permanent.

Back then Jimmy Thackery was playing a Gibson Flying V. It has tons of guitarists signatures on it including B.B. and Muddy.

Jimmy said a guy walked into his dressing room in 1980 needed to sell an old Strat. Jimmy looked at it and gave him $700.00. But he didn't use it. Later it was stolen and the thief sold it to a Pawn Shop for $20.00 and the pawn guy knew Jimmy was on the hunt so Jimmy got it back. Jimmy said he slowly began to use it more and more until he wasn't using the V at all. But his Gibson flying V was a louder guitar so as to not make a big change to his amps, he "hotrodded" the Stratocaster by adding hot rail pickups and a heavy Floyd Rose tailpiece which gave it more sustain. But he didnt touch the old worn body he believes use to be a sunburst.

Anyway this is a great guitarist with a great sounding guitar and a hot little 3 piece band. Enjoy this set while you are stuck at home. It is hot.

Anybody get to the jazz instrumental just before Apache? Jimmy Thackery is an excellent jazz guitar player and his old Fender Stratocaster is such a nice sounding guitar. The superstrats by Ibenez, Hamer, Kramer, Charvel etc are louder but they don't have that warm sound and tone a Fender does.

Excellent version of Apache by Jimmy at 30:50 in.

It also shows why a real good sounding Stratocaster is better than a Les Paul if you can only afford one good guitar. And Jimmy has a great sounding Stratocaster. He paid $700 dollars for it in 1980.
