Jeopardy

Just watched Jeopardy and one of the answers was; Rock and Roll Hall of Famer known for Whipping Post and Ramblin' Man. The contestant who rang in the fastest said "Who is Gregg Allman". Alex said "Yes that is correct.
At least Derek Trucks wasn't correct.

Who is Dickey Betts

I saw that! My wife was watching and I wasn't paying attention, actually looking at flights to NYC for Dickey, and heard something about HOF artist being known for Whipping Post and Ramblin Man and heard the contestant say Gregg Allman and I was like 'damn' Alex would have an argument on his hands had any of us been up there.

the category was "one year gone". at least they go that part right

Yeah one year gone. They should have used Midnight Rider instead of Ramblin' Man. Dickey or Derek wouldn't have fit that one year category. Gregg was in the Allman Brothers and plays organ and sings back up with Chuck on Ramblin' Man. So I guess those are some dots you can connect. But we know they just assumed Gregg wrote it or at least sang lead on it.
And they take points away from contestants sometimes later in the show when the judges think about it a few minutes.
Also I wonder how many of those answers to those questions my doctor probably doesn't know and I absolutely don'bt know may be off a little like this one was.

Ahhh One Year Gone - explains it.
I was surprised that they would leave themselves open to two correct responses. Well 5 could be debated I guess.

Given the category and the question phrasing - Butch Trucks would technically be a correct answer as well. So they left themselves open to a bit of dispute.

At least Derek Trucks wasn't correct.
Everybody knows Blackey's favorite era of the Allman Brothers Band is the Warren Hayens/Derek Trucks era. It's common knowledge. If Alex was to ask, "What is Blackey's favorite era of The Allman Brothers Band's historic run?", the answer would 100% be "What is the Warren Haynes/Derek Trucks era". And the audience would rejoice and be glad.

Ha ha jparadise. As much as I respect Derek, Warren and Otiel, I'm not sure I would call the last lineup the Allman Brothers Band. Two drummers and Gregg and no original guitar players in a guitar heavy band. One studio album that apparently only sold 36,000 copies. I've also heard it sold about 200,000 so that may be more like it. The last lineup was a group of good musicians trying to continue the legacy of a band that probably died in 1971. Jaimoe said the energy and vibe they had with Duane ended when Duane split. That was gone and it was never the same. He did say he wasn't saying later lineups were not good. It's a similar deal with Lynyrd Skynyrd. They are trying to carry on the legacy of Ronnie Van Zant with one original member. Was the last lineup and modern LS tribute bands? Yes and no. Both late lineups also tried to plow new ground but most people unlike some here who see the last lineup as the Allman Brothers at their crowing glory, play the original bands. Except for Jessica and Ramblin Man all I hear on classic radio stations as I travel around is the ORIGINAL LINEUP. Same with LS with changes under Ronnie not considered. And the Ronnie years and the ABB from 1969 to 1979 with most tracks being the original band is where the CD sales are. Eat A Peach sells far more copies each year than Hitting the Note. LS albums with Ronnie are the big sellers .
Butch Trucks wrote here about 2003 that the band should have fired Dickey in 1973 because by the time Brothers and Sisters came out we were actually the Dickey Betts Band and the band had a country vibe that wasn't what Duane Allman had in mind. Butch apparently doubted the Chuck/Lamar band was the Allman Brothers.
I see his point but at the time I tried to view it as what the band evolved into because of the deaths of Duane and Berry and adding Chuck thus becoming a one guitar band in a twin guitar band. It changed it songs such as Ramblin Man, Jessica and Pony Boy did too. And the 1978-1982 lineup struck me as a merger of the Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts bands more that the ABB.
It wasn't until I saw the band in 1989 that it sounded like the real Allman Brothers minus Duane and Berry. Warren and Allen were great at replacements for Duane and Berry. They knew they were standing in for two fallen brothers and signaled them while showing their own sounds. Same with Jack and Otiel and Derek and Otiel. But when Dickey was gone, when I saw the band I was missing Dickey and been missing Duane and Oakley in all the lineups. It just didn't feel right to me while realising the musicianship was good but it was so different to me without Dickey who was my link to Duane as Dickey was their from the beginning. . Like trying to enjoy the Stones with Keith and Charlie not there or Led Zeppelin with only Plant on the front line. I guess I would rather see a new band such as TTB or Govt Mule which I go see than the ABB or LS or Marshall Tucker with so many originals gone. And to make it even worse for me, the original ABB, which I saw dozens of times, is by far the greatest rock band I've ever heard. Why in the hell would I put Hitting the Note on right now when I can choose Eat A Peach. It's a much better album. Better songs and Duane Allman is on it! And I bought Hitting the Note and it's a good album. But it's doesn't compare to Eat A Peach. It gives Sgt. Pepper stiff competition though:)

You answered your own question. Why put it on? It's a good album. You said it all. Doesn't mean that you can't listen to Eat A Peach.
Why listen to a single live ABB show when I can just play the Fillmore album?
Variety is the spice of life. Music is not an either/or choice nor it is a competition. You also can't change what others like and how the music makes them feel. Somewhere on the planet is someone whose favorite singer is Yoko Ono and they love to hear her and makes them happy. Whether or not I like it has absolutely no bearing on their enjoyment.
Did the ABB alter over the years? Sure just as every other band altered also.
Would they have altered if Duane/Berry had never died? Yup.
Would we have all liked all the various periods/eras if they had lived? Impossible to say but the only bands that have an entire strong catalog from bottom to top are bands that had short careers. Anyone releasing albums for 40-50 years has some clunkers in there.
Would the ABB have done a disco song? I hope not but would have said the same about The Stones. Maybe Duane would have guested on If You Think I'm Sexy?

Blackey
Yeah, I was completely kidding. It was a joke on the fact you perpetually tell us that The Allman Brothers Band ended with the original 6. To which, you followed up my joke, by telling us that The Allman Brothers Band ended with the original 6. I was kidding and have a strange sense of humor. But this tickled me to death. God bless ya.
That said, I don't entirely disagree with you.

I have complete reverence for original line ups and see later incarnations as just that I guess and applaud the effort. I think “Hittin The Note” was a great album and I really enjoyed that line up live.

Yeah anyone in a famine starving and living off dead beetles, probably relates to Yoko pretty well I'd guess.

you'd have to like sticking sharp objects in your ears too, I suppose
