Jeff Beck Passed

I'll just bet you Jeff Beck would have loved Jack Pearson if he ever met and saw him play. So far this morning haven't found anything that says Jeff ever heard or met Jack but Jeff Beck would LOVE this!!!
Exactly Jeff's kind of playing from Jack Pearson.

@robertdee While I am sure that Jeff would've loved this - and ALL of Jack's playing, Jack is very much his own genius! I'm sure that Jeff was aware of Jack as both of them played extensively with Jimmy Hall. I would've loved to have been a fly on the wall at any meeting that the two might've had!

I first met Jeff through SRV when they toured together. Jeff Healey was there also. Lots of laughs and what an incredible group of guitarists to be sitting with.
The internet is full of people that can copy pretty much every guitarist except for Jeff Beck. Some may have notes here and there that sound similar but not even an entire phrase. A solo - forget it - an entire song - will never be copied. The reason all these guitarists call him the best is that despite huge egos, they all know that they can not do what he does.
Jeff was showing me the side of his hand which is permanently scarred from pressing against the sharp edges of a Fender Stratocaster bridge. He would press into it to alter pitch. A technique that is insane to try and control and stay in tune. He would add that to his whammy bar use and play them off each other. He didn't use a pick and he used his fingers in a manner where he controlled the volume and intensity of notes. Not just finger-picking but as an extension of what he was doing on his bridge. His right hand was performing four different functions and all having a major impact of his sound. Boggles the mind and it is the right hand that made his playing sound like a human voice.
I met him a few times and always such a nice guy. I appreciate how open and friendly he was. He always had the reputation for being moody and difficult but I sure never saw that. The guitar world lost one of the greatest.
Jeff may have lacked the song library compared to the Page, Clapton and Blackmore's of the world. But the true magic of Jeff Beck is that he could play anything and give it that Beck Magic. He could take a song like Row Your Boat and create a work of beauty and get a standing ovation at the end. None of the others could do that. Beck was at his best on stage. One note and you know it is Beck playing.
And no one ever knew what notes were coming next - not even Jeff. It just flowed out of him.

@canadianmule Here is a good endorsement for Jeff Beck. This guy has made a few dollars playing an electric guitar.

Jeff's bass player for several tours began with him when she was 19!!!!

Jeff Beck 1944 - 2023
“I’ve been in a haze since I got the news. I’ve tried to sit down and write but the words have escaped me. Here’s what came out tonight. JB, thank you for 50 years of friendship and musical collaboration, including countless magical nights around the world when I felt like I was flying as I sang my heart out onstage next to you and you played your guitar with such passion and soul that it sounded like angels singing. We joked about farting preachers, emulated bird calls, and discussed the merits of Popeye the Sailor man, vintage Ford hotrods and obscure gospel tunes. We indulged in an after-show Prosecco or two and boy did we laugh, a lot! I look forward to singing our favorite songs to the heavens in hopes that I can channel some of your magic and touch the people around me, all the while hoping you can hear us, too. Rest easy my musical inspiration and treasured friend. Love, Jimmy Boy”

His guitar collection is going to be auctioned
