Over the last few years I’ve gone from less than a jazz novice, to really digging in and enjoying it.

So now to jazz-pop!  Any good jazz Christmas albums to recommend?

The Charlie Brown Christmas by Vince Guaraldi Trio is really good.

A couple I can recommend, although it probably is 2 or 3 years since I've listened to either, Carla Bley; Carla's Christmas Carols and John Mahoney Big Band Christmas Joy. I can't remember how jazzy the first one is, but I do recall there's some gorgeous 'christmas' brass playing on it and a fair bit of original music. Second one is a swinging modern big band album with plenty of extended tracks. Stan Kenton's Christmas album was always a bit of a disappointment, most of the tracks are short and don't really go anywhere. Chet Baker has done a pretty reasonable Christmas album. There's also a Blue Note Christmas album, Yule Struttin' which seems to get quite a bit of coverage, but I've never heard it so can't make a recommendation.

@smyler Yule Struttin is very good.  Picked it up used a few years ago on CD.  Chet Baker, Count Basie, Dexter Gordon, Stanley Jordan, John Schofield, Lou Rawlsamong the many contributors.  Very different from the typical Christmas selections.

@rationalrebel I have two Joe Pass albums on vinyl I bought years ago. Good music for a lazy Sunday.

This isn't jazz. It's just very old. It's the oldest know recording of Jingle Bells. Edison phonograph from 1898.

Jingle Bells was written by John Lord Pierpont in 1857 and published on sheet music in Boston September 14th, 1857. It says it is one of the most famous music compositions in the entire world!!

Here is the 1898 recording.

Filmed at Edison's studio November, 1894.

Annie Oakley and her rifle.

Edison crossing the Brooklyn bridge in 1899.
