It's Wanee Time

Looking forward to heading out tomorrow for Wanee ......
Quite a few acts I want to see ..
Wednesday has Ben Sparaco and a late show of Rossevelt Collier Trio playing Hendrix
Thursday - always enjoy Bobby Lee Rodgers... Dumpstafunk doing Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Dark Star Orchestra
Friday - Jaimoe's Jasssz Band, Marcus King Band, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Walter Trout, Phil Lesh, and a midnight North Mississippi Allstars set.
Saturday - Sonny Landreth, As the Crow Flies (Chris Robinson Crowe's show with Marcus King), George Porter, Phil Lesh, and Karl Denson's Eat a Bunch of Peaches midnight show....
Plus meeting up with everybody at Helen's Hilton...........
With the cold weather we have been having (actually snowed today), I can't wait to get back to Wanee and the warm weather - time to relax and recharge.......

I cant' wait! We will be there tomorrow. Since the Allmans bowed out and the lineups have gotten more "Deadish" I've been less and less excited about the headliners and more interested in the lesser known bands and just hanging with the people I know and see once a year. I'm always excited for Jaimoe, Roosevelt Marcus King, and Karl Denson. I'm really excited to check out Pigeons Playing Pingpong.
Sang, hopefully I'll be able to meet! I usually camp out under the stars, but I roll through the Hilton on my way in and out of shows pretty often.

See y'all there tomorrow:)

Bunch of lucky ducks!!! Or is it Ducky f&*ks?
Looking forward to hearing about Chris Robinson and Marcus King. Seeing that show in Oregon in May.
Have fun!!!

Woo Hoo ~ It's Wanee time
See y'all there tomorrow:)
Ditto

Safe travels everyone. Be safe and have a great time.

Ditto....safe travels, and enjoy! What I love and miss most about Wanee is the camping. Not that the music was secondary, but the environment there made the experience so much more enjoyable.

I seem to miss you every year.........

Have fun, y'all!

So, we are 2 days in......
I finally met porkchopbob.........
So far, I have seen:
Wednesday: Bonnie Blue, Juke, Ben Sparaco
Thursday: Berry Oakley's Indigenous Suspects, Bobby Lee Rodgers, Big Something(great version of Pink Floyd Echoes), Dumpsta Funk, Dark Star Orchestra, and a great campfire jam with the Melody Trucks Band.....
Tomorrow: Jaimoe, Marcus King, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Walter Trout, Phil Lesh, Widespread Panic, and a midnight show by North Mississippi Allstars.... hopefully I will see them all....

Sounds like some good shows. I really like Bobby Lee Rodgers.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

You would like Wanee then - he played 3 days plus the traveling stage......

Saw all I wanted Friday..........
Saturday I saw Bobby Lee Rodgers again, Sonny Landreth, As the Crow Flies, a couple songs from George Porter Jr, Phil Lesh, and Karl Denson's Tiny Universe and their Eat a Bunch of Peaches - which was very good.
Last year was really hot - this year it was actually cool and breezy - it was actually a litttle cold when the sun went down on Friday night. Saturday was overcast all day.
Of course I hit rain near Atlanta and it rained all the way to my stop for the night in Clarksville, Tn.
No, I didn't take the last train...........

It's always hard to leave Wanee and say goodbye to everyone....... Helen's Hilton did another spectacular job .....

Great Wanee and great to finally meet you, Sang!
Lots of great music - Jaimoe is usually my highlight and he and Junior & the gang did not disappoint. It's always wonderful to see old friends and hang out, it's such a beautiful spot - I'd watch just about any band from the Mushroom Stage. St Paul was great, Marcus King had a really nice set, Big Something was a lot of fun.
Renovah, I agree, the camping and the vibe at Wanee is what really sets it apart and with the Allman Brothers presence fading from Wanee, the people are definitely what keeps me coming back. A lot of folks I spoke to seemed to have the same feeling - they were closer to their last Wanee. Jaimoe, Berry Oakley, and Karl Denson's Peaches sets were pretty much it for Allmans-related material, and not being much of a Dead Head or a Panic fan, I find myself spending more time just hanging out. With Panic twice, Chris Robinson twice (though I enjoyed As the Crow Flies), and 3 Dead family/cover bands got a little repetitive. Les Bros was originally supposed to play, but ended up disappearing from the lineup. Peach Fest has a hell of a lineup, so I might pull the trigger on that this year.
Still had a great time and always a bummer tearing that festival bracelet off!

Good to hang with Zang better known as Sang. Good to see Bluedad, Tim, and Big Dave. Aikens and I did all we could do. Panic kicked again. Walter Trout was great. As the Crow flies was excellent. Loved Phil, Marcus King, Jaimoe Jazz Band, Karl Denson, Glad Aikens got to see Bobby Lee.. Thanks to Darrell Blanton for treehouse passes. Great weekend gig. See you Sang.

Did anyone think the crowd size was down this year? I assume Panic keeps them coming back.
I've missed the last two Wanees, but will make an effort to get back down, soon.

Crowd size definitely seemed down compared to previous years, and the vibe seemed much more chill overall (though that's just anecdotal, I'm sure everyone's experience was different). I think 420 Fest has split the crowd more in recent years, especially with the Allman Brothers gone and TTB, Umphrey's, and String Cheese all taking a lot the same fans with them to 420 (and TTB and String Cheese both have their own FL festivals). I also noticed the camping out in the field was relatively sparse - used to be tents were on top of each other but this weekend you could claim enough real estate to build a small house on. I also didn't notice any of the long lines of cars arriving Weds and Thursday like they used to or the influx of younger single day-trippers on Saturday.

I miss going to Wanee but without the ABB, it just wouldn't feel right.
Did you take any pics you could share? I miss that beautiful place!
