Meaning Black Sabbath's first record, "Black Sabbath". And just sit there and revel in just how evil they really sounded then. And how only the very serious heavy music freaks got it, until word started to spread later.

I'm 61, so I was 15 when this record came out. It actually scared quite a few people.............people who thought you had to be either a Satanist or a really strange dude to listen to this stuff.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again: This record gave birth to Heavy Metal music.

You know my version of that last night Rob?

Put on a recent vinyl find, of a band I had none, that had heard a million times in the High School days (69-73). It was stuff I hadn't heard in 40 years. Played Grand Funk Railroad. It was fun!

With the exception of their first one, "On Time", which is just a little too raw for me, I upgraded all of Grand Funk's early stuff to CD years ago.............just too dear to my heart not to. They weren't as polished as many other bands of the day............hell, even bassist Mel Schacher has said, "We were a garage band". So what............they had a certain power that could not be denied, especially live. They were the first band I ever saw, 1971, I was 16................they lit a rock 'n' roll fire in my Soul which still burns to this day.

By shear chance, I put Black Sabbath on the stereo last night about 3 AM and cranked it up all the way. Then I got out my snare drum and played along to my favorite Sabbath tunes- "The Wizard", "War Pigs", "Sweet Leaf" and "Black Sabbath". Even though I don't like Heavy Metal music at all, I absolutely love the first few Black Sabbath albums. And even though I'm a guitarist, I love playing drums to this stuff!! It's a great way to let out my aggression and anger without hurting anyone. (Just don't do this at home kids if you have neighbors nearby!) I think drumming to Black Sabbath is a kind of anger management therapy for me!
