Island Allman

I got this letter from an old friend, I will share it with you:
I used to work with Greg Allman's daughter "Island". She was named "Deliliah" but she goes by her middle name.
She is very nice. She told me that she deliberately decided not to go into "the business" like many of her relatives did. There are a lot of Allman's trying to make it in the music business.
She's a Nurse. She told me that when she was in HS she studied like crazy and got good grades. She said that she'd come home from school and Eric Clapton would be sitting in her living room with her Dad. She's say hi and then say that she had to do her homework.
She's married to a really good neurosurgeon. He used to tell me the most amazing stories about his father-in-law.
Island is very careful not to have people judge her on her famous father. She wants to be judged for who she is. I used to enjoy working with her.

Thanks for the Island update! Always interesting to hear news about Gregg's kids.
I'm confused though: I guess Gregg has two daughters then. I know he has a daughter who is a singer because I heard her come out and do a tune at a GA & Friends show in San Francisco quite a few years back. I can't remember her name.
Amusing tale about Island coming home from school, Eric Clapton is in the living room with Gregg!!

Odd post and letter.
So,she is 39, and if Clapton was sitting in her living room, that time frame for her to be coming home from school would have been late 80's into late 90's. Gregg was not even married to her mother Julie Bindas at that time. They divorced in 84. Unless Clapton was making visits to her mom ........for some reason. 😉

Brooklyn Allman is the singer you’re referring to... Gregg wrote a song for Island; May be self-titled on ‘Just before the Bullets Fly’. Pretty revealing tune...raw

Hmm, that's the first I heard of a relationship between Eric and Gregg besides Gregg being at the Layla session and the Beacon 09 shows.
I guess its possible. I dunno...

I guess anything is possible, but I don't buy the Clapton story. Maybe she is misremembering at it was someone else.

Playallnite thank you so much for sharing that story..

It's a cool story and I'm really happy to hear Island is doing well, but she definitely did not ever meet Eric in her dad's living room.

My friend is not a hard core Allman fan like most of us are, probably an honest mistake as a story/stories can change over the decades.

I always thought this was a cool song.

Wow you are right, that is an excellent tune! I had heard it because I have Just Before The Bullets Fly but haven't played it for years and never knew Island was written for his daughter.

"Island"
Sometimes it seems like yesterday
Other times more than a million years
Oh little girl sweeter than an angel
When I think of her I laugh
And drown in my own tears
You draw your first breath so close to me
Now we've been apart for years and years
She can wash the land away, tides turning everyday
All I really came to say is
I still love you my sweet Island
Maybe times will someday build a bridge for us
Somewhere father down the line; I know
But for you this;
To show you who's on my mind
She can wash the land away, tides turning everyday
All I really came to say is
I still love you my sweet Island
Whatever they may say about my silence
Remember I'm an Island too
We're connected by more than an ocean
My blood runs in you
She can wash the land away, tides turning everyday
All I really came to say is
I still love you my sweet Island
Pretty cool song, never knew it was about one of Gregg’s kids
