They did nail it. Very nice. Sadler Vaden is a world class guitarist who can absolutely can handle the extended ABB jams....would have been fine with me if had solo'd another 2-3 minutes!

I've loved Isbell since his first solo album (I was late to the party & never saw him in Drive By Truckers). He has amazing music on all (now) 6 of his solo albums...every album has 6-7 just modern day classics. More & more, he seems to be dropping the first 3 albums almost entirely from the setlist. It's a shame. He normally only does about 2 extended jams per show, so only doing 19 songs in a concert is weak, IMO.

At one point he was doing 2 hour shows, and he seems to have cut that back....saw him last Fall at the Fox in ATL and it was 75 minutes (including the a few minutes off stage for the encore crowd call back). Isbell has easily another 30 minutes of tunes to play each night of his own, not to mention he does incredible covers like this one and his DTB classics. Kind of hard to believe he's not doing 2+ hour shows.

I played this and Cumberland Gap off of Jason's new album last night for a friend. He was very dismissive of the guitar playing. I really like both songs a lot and enjoyed Sadler's playing.

I post this because my friend is a guitar player and pretty objective when he gives an opinion. I get tired of him comparing every modern guitar player to the 60's & 70's greats along with guys like Mike Campbell & Derek Trucks.

Curious if others like Sadler Vaden's playing like hotlantatim & I do?

Isbell and Sadler can rip it, period, even if they don't always display that on record. Cumberland Gap not the song I'd play for him, IMO (don't love that one myself but there's no solo).

Sadler's a monster player. I'm a guitar player, but the thing with most guitarists is they're guitarists.....they expect everything to have an extended solo and/or jam and they judge everything based on the playing. Sadler's role in the 400 Unit is an accompanist, he's there to serve the songs (which in Isbell's case are freaking incredible) and that's gotta be a really fun gig. Vaden's got it all, anybody passing judgment on him or dismissing his playing, should probably wonder why they aren't hired by such an incredible songwriter (and guitarist in his own right) as Jason Isbell.

Played a festival with them last year and for what it's worth, both of them are enormously nice guys, wound up watching Mudcrutch with them and talking gear for a good while.
