Is TTB a blues band?

Seems like "blues" is a catch all for anything that doesn't fit snugly in a specific genre. I thought susan was more of a blues artist when she was solo and revelator was as close to bluse as this band has gotten.

They go beyond basic categorization, as did the DTB and the ABB.
However, if you get to see them live, they will serve you up an "I Pity the Fool" or "Little By Little" or "How Blue Can You Get" that will melt your face.

I think of them as a classic R&B band in the footsteps of James Browns band or the bands that would back Wilson Pickett...They also touch upon all American music styles but when I saw them I could see them backing Otis Redding or any other Stax, Atlantic record type artist.

Blues Magazine thinks they're a blues band.
They won 3 awards in May.
Susan Tedeschi had a big night as well. Tedeschi added to her BMA award collection by being named best Contemporary Blues Female Artist, while the Tedeschi Trucks Band took home Band of the Year and Rock Blues Album (Let Me Get By) honors.

That's what i mean. They get nominated for blues but most of their records and sets are not blues based.
I'm a blues fan but it seems like the genre is quicksand. Once an artist is labeled a blues act they seem to try and distance themselves a bit. Gary clark jr. Is example but once they get the label, they can't completely shake it.

It's all blues based, brother!

TTB has a lot of musical styles.

Rhythm and Blues isn't blues, but it can get bluesy. They (TTB) are closer to definition of R&B, but traditional R&B doesn't extended jam, or get transcendental on long guitar solo's, except those times Duane commandeered a studio session or two.... so TTB isn't really traditional there either, but closest genre is R&B. and as for awards received in a misdirected manner, always take them! Smart move. TTB voted best Hip Hop! You Bet! I hope this clears things up....

Check out the TTB doing "How Blue Can You Get," 7/9/2017:

Susan's band was definitely more of what most of us would call a blues band.
Although I am not a fan of TTB, I like the blues tunes they do better than the rest of their stuff.
I would not call them a pop band, but my experience is that they are playing to more pop-oriented audiences than the ABB and other family bands.

I saw Bela Fleck and the Flecktones a few years ago and he mentioned that they won some kind of award for best contemporary jazz album. He said that he was happy because now he knew what kind of band he was in.
labels serve little purpose except for marketing (see Gregg's comments about the ABB being a southern rock band).
imo TTB has elements of rock, classic R&B, blues and jazz with an occasional Eastern flavor. I don't know what kind of band they are
