Interview with Peter Wolf of J. Geils Band

I interviewed Peter Wolf recently and here is the first article from that talk. What is not in this one and will be in future pieces is him and I talking about the Allman Brothers and the J. Geils Band playing the last night of the Fillmore east, about hanging with Duane and more........as for now...

interesting, thanks for the link

Hilarious story from the article:
"It was a nice club and we were sitting there and the band was doing some Hank Williams songs," remembers Wolf. "I had a couple of shooters in me and feeling no pain and I walked up to the stage and said, 'Hey man, I'd like to sit in with you.'
They started doing this Hank Williams song and I started singing, but it was a song that I wasn't all that familiar with. I mean, I knew the song, but I was making up some of the words as we went along.
During one of the fiddle breaks, a gentleman in a full three-piece suit, a big guy, he comes up to the stage and signals me to get close to his ear.
I say, 'What's up?' He says, 'Son, I own this place. A couple of your fellows back there are handing out these here marijuana cigarettes to my waitresses and that really makes me mad. But what makes me mad even more is you don't know the (gosh dern) words to a Hank Williams song. Son, I'm going to give you and your friends five minutes to walk out of here. If you don't leave within five minutes, you won't be walking out.' So, we kind of quickly got out of there (laughs)."

GREAT artice! thx for posting it--I saw one of their reunion shows a few years ago--J. Geils was still playing with them..all original members except the drummer..damn good show..Full House is probably my 2nd favorite live recording of a band

Welcome...more to come from Peter sometimes soon. He actually was a real nice guy. He had a dental problem so he called me three times hours before our appointed time to make sure we got the interview in before he went to town to take care of it.

I've seen J Geils a bunch of times; including this tour with Seger and two years ago. They can still bring it; but the large arena and short set did not allow them to draw in the crowd like they did on their own in a 2,000 seat place. If they come to a small venue by you will not be disappointed

thanks for sharing. Nice interview and I look forward to the follow-up.
I got turned onto J.Geils with the Full House album and saw them many times in the 70's and last in 2011 at the Boston Bank of America Pavilion a reunion show. They could still bring it even after all these years.
I am sure the current band puts on a great show but for me it will never be the same now that the name sake, J. Geils, is no longer a part of the band.
I last saw Peter Wolf at a Stones show in Boston during the last tour here. We lucked out and got $85 mystery tickets in the lower bowl for the first show and were standing near a concession stand drinking a beer talking to friends when an usher comes flying by with Wolf in hot pursuit. I just had time to ask Peter if he was guesting with the Stones that night and he said " not tonight maybe tomorrow's show". I went to both Stones shows and Peter never did come on as a guest. Too bad as it would have been a good combo him and Sir Mick.
