Grateful Dead drummer pens memoir. I interviewed him for The Wall Street Journal:

You'll all be interested to know that he was really into talking about Jaimoe with me. They prepped him that I wrote an ABB book, and he launched into talking about what a wonderful person and drummer he was, and had a lot of questions for me. Pretty interesting.

Thanks for sharing. The interview seemed like a departure from the usual stuff you share about the ABB. I enjoyed it. Does the subject set the tone on the types of questions?

Hmmm... This is an interesting question. Not a conscious decision on my part so I don't have a glib answer.

Everything sets the tone. I can share all kinds of different interviews I've done. I think that while the subject is obviously important the biggest departure in tone probably has to do with the venue. I used different types of Q's n the WSJ than I would in a music pub. I have a lot of more music-oriented dialogue I couldn't fit. Some of it will go up on my blog. Will share.

It's probably not a career enhancer but I'd love to see you write an article about the artists you've interviewed and what made it interesting, hard, easy etc....

Have you ever talked with any writers that discussed what it was like interviewing Duane? I read somewhere that he could come across as quite cocky -- not that he didn't have a reason, LOL!!!!

Good interview that you linked from the WSJ. Well done!

Why did the band refuse the McGovern campaign’s request for an endorsement in ’72?

We were truly apolitical. We backed Obama in ’08, and Jerry would have vetoed that had he been alive, because he put all politicians in the same bag: Some are more tolerable than others, but they’re still politicians.

Can't wait to read Bill's book. Thanks for the link to your interview Alan !

your interviews always leave me wanting more. have you ever thought about doing podcasts or webcasts whatever they are called? maybe call it "the conversation" and have hour long chats with different artists? put it on youtube.

Thanks... I think.

have you ever thought about doing podcasts?

Yes, I have thought about it a lot and would like to get going on one actually. I keep intending to put it at the top of my list, but haven;t done so yet.
