interview: Derek Trucks will not be a part of any Allmans reunion.
Nothing involving either Chuck or Jack will ever be watered down. As for the "standards", every version since then has relied on those tunes.
Debated with people here for years about them being an "oldies" act. When your setlist is 40+ years old, you are an oldies act. When you are 70 you are old.
By "watering down" I mean that this "40 year old setlist" - invented and made popular by (guitar speaking) Duane and Dickey has been getting passed from player to player without any real NEW (i.e. ORIGINAL) contributions from ... anybody. No, I'm certainly not knocking (by any stretch of the imagination) the talents of Chuck and Jack. Read anything I've ever posted about either - I'm a front row disciple of both!
The Allman Brother's Band has always brought first-rate players to the stage - that is not in dispute.
These guys called it quits less than two years ago - presumably to pursue other projects.
The Allman Brother's Band are my favorite band in the world. Having said that, continuing to play the same set ... forever ... in my book - that's called "watered down".
Peace and love to all.
I would say that the "watering down effect" started after Warren/Woody quit as without Warren new music disappeared for the most part. They started to drop the new music from 89 forward. They did the same a couple of years after HTN. They stopped playing the songs and relied on material from the first 3 albums again.
"If you experienced the Mule NYE "Watkins Glen" show with Chuck and Jack, you would not be so quick to dismiss a tour as a watering down of the legacy of the ABB. It was a night of absolutely magicall music. Much like the current version of the ABB was vastly different from the original band or the five man band, that version could do ABB tunes or anything else and offer fans great entertainment."

I wish Allmule would do more. The download of the Allmule show is awesome. However, please remember that Chuck is the only member of the Allmule band that was in the ABB prior to 1989.
Chuck, Jack, and Warren will be awesome anytime they play together. The drummers, bass, and B3 for that show also definately knew the vibe. But to my knowledge, only Paul Riddle and Matt Abts had ever set in with the ABB.

Shawn Pelton and Danny Louis had both sat in with Allmans before.

That's very true. The shows, setlists, and songs of the ABB played at shows were for the most part based on nostalgia, and the past, besides when they played the songs from Hitttin the note a lot in the early 00s.
Even at shows where the band would play through old albums like Eat a Peach and At Fillmore East during the last four years of the band, it seemed as though the band members were bored or just going through the motions, and for fans both longtime diehard fans and casual fans of the band it was boring since it was not as though we had never heard those albums and songs 1,000's of times before.
I can understand why Derek, Warren, and Oteil became bored with the Allmans and wanted to quit.

Low Country Blues is a good album.i gained my respect back for Gregg as a solo artist.
lost it in 75 when he he married cher. appeared on her show singing midnight rider with cher an two dancers came back and sang good thing with her i said to my parents duane is rolling in his grave he would kick gregg's ass for this. Dickie was keeping the band going 75-76
Dickey i still love dickey i met him once it was 77 at the capital theater in Passaic they were unloading equipment in back i saw dickey i was driving my 68 corvette i said hi dickey i'm seeing your show tonight he liked the car he was a just a regular nice guy just like i thought. and the best in my book. as for gregg i love him to Low Country Blues is the first solo album i've bought by him since gregg allman tour 1974.

I did not like the T-Bone production on low country blues. Hopefully the new album that was or is being recorded at muscle shoals turns out to be good even if it will probably be mostly cover songs.

Another alternative would be for Chuck and Jack to go on the road with Randall Bamblett and do a Sea Level reunion. I would love to see Jeff Sipe as a drummer on that one. I would go to see that band in a flash.
Reunions are nostalgic, but those times are gone so why not go hear new music? I'm sorry, I don't get all the fuss about going to see tired old stuff trotted out at exorbitant ticket prices.

Did you go to any ABB shows in the last ten years? Very little new music, but many of those shows were a display of extraordinary musicianship. For my tastes, there are few bands that approach the same level of playing of that band.
Other than one Wanee performance, I had not seen Chuck Leavell play a full show, rather than sitting in with the ABB. I had not seen Jack Pearson since his tenure with the ABB. To experience the two of them in one band for a full night was something very special.
I did not see Pinetop Perkins, Hubert Sumlin, Cornell Dupree and several other who have since passed when they were in their prime, but given the chance to see them, even in decline, was priceless.
In response to all of the well thought out posts above, I don't believe any of this matters until Gregg does something that will bring anything new to any possible "Re-union". Re-create yourself, throw in some rock-a-billy, swing, horn oriented bop, work on your Hammond B3 chops, write and record a couple of original songs that touch people the way you used to. Make yourself the reason the others wish to jam. It won't happen. Why? Because he appears content with things just the way they are.
Can you imagine Jack, Warren & Chuck in an ABB with Gregg and possibly Dickey? What's in it for them? Their musical skills allow them to literally soar above their older counterparts. How long before boredom ruled the roost if there was no new material from Gregg?
I am pretty sure an ABB reunion will happen at some point with hopefully Jack pearson replacing derek. hopefully Berry oakley jr
also. But bring on a few new original songs.

I would not hold my breathe for that reunion. They were going to continue and had put feelers out with players but without Warren, Gregg was out.
They are all content to a degree and playing. Cash wise perhaps Butch and Jaimoe wouldn't mind but the others are doing great.
I would not be surprised if they do reunite for money, and because they miss playing music with each other.
The band members saw dead 50 and are kicking themselves for not having the last Allmans show at a larger venue like MSG, or touring/playing more dates besides a few festivals, a few Beacon shows, and not live streaming any of the show to people who were not there for it.
If it happens it will happen after 2017.

They are not kicking themselves and didn't want any of it. It is why Derek and Warren have stated that they wanted a bigger tour and the others didn't. Gregg was playing shows during the months that they could have toured. He didn't want to. Plus the Beacon was the perfect place because of their history there. MSG is way too big for the ABB at this stage unless you want the last show played to a half full building. The Dead's popularity and the ABB are two different beasts.
I am glad that they didn't gouge people with PPV like the Dead did. Plus Butch pretty much soured the fans on that route after the Moogis failure.
