Thoughts suggestions ideas?

Looking to make an Independence Day music mix. Songs about
summer, America, patriotism, traditional, etc... Any and all styles welcome.

Would like to find some big band /orchestral type "American themed " music Also.. Thoughts on that would be appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

Something groovy and fun in the afternoon after everyone's had a beer or two while grilling some good eats.

Dave Alvin - 4th Of July

First song I thought of and perhaps the best song he ever wrote. Make sure you put the X version on your mix as well.

My choices include Bruce Springsteen, “My Hometown”, Simon and Garfunkel’, “America”, Jimi Hendrix, “Star Spangled America”, The Proclaimers, “Coming To America”, Grand Funk, “We’re An American Band”, Bruce Springsteen, 4th Of July-Sandy”, Tom Petty, American Girl” along many others.

Mermaid Avenue, volumes 1 and 2.

Wilco and Billy Bragg were approached by Woody Guthrie’s family to take his unpublished lyrics and set them to new music. These guys stepped up and knocked it out of the park. Great stuff. True blue.

I had a revisit of Hughie of late and had Lynyrd Skynyrds Vicious Cycles CD on (which is pretty good as a whole) and the song Red, White, & Blue is a good patriotic themed number.

I've always loved Charlie Daniels unyielding patriotism and how he recites our Pledge Of Allegiance and thanks our beloved Military before he plays In America.

I take pride in our country and to those who serve and love when artists share that love in song.

Sly & The Family Stone released a greatest hits album in 1970. Nothing says summer to me like that album. Everyday People, Stand, Hot Fun In The Summertime, etc.
