Yeah, I know everyone liked the Clapton shows in 2009, and 3/26/09 had a special place in our hearts, but man, I love the 3/14 show, jazz night. Randy Brecker and Lenny White on Dreams in the 1st set...outstanding. And the 2nd set with Brecker and White on In a Silent Way, and then IMOER with Brecker, White, and Stanley Clarke. I never heard anything like it. I'm listening to it again this afternoon and...wow!
Probably one of my top 5 favorite shows. That show is crazy good. I'd take the Kingpins night 3/23/2009 over the Clapton shows as well. For anyone who didn't see the Miles Davis/Coltrane influences on "Dreams" and even "Little Martha", that 3/14 show connected the dots.
Have been looking for my copies of the 09 Beacon run recently so I could relisten to this show.
Thanks for the recommendation. I've been filling in blanks in my collection ever since the final run in 2014. I don't have this show. I just downloaded from Munck. Can't wait to give it a listen.
Just getting to the Mountain Jam encore. I had forgotten the In A Silent Way references and Birdland teases. Man, what an inspired show. I remember watching it live on Moogis. I remember my wife giving me the strangest looks as I was jumping up and down yelling "Holy Sh!t!". Definitely a top 5 show.
Good suggestion - I will make this my commute music for tomorrow!
