Larry McCray (trivia: he was the first artist to record "Soulshine")

Yes, thank you! It was driving me crazy.

BTW, your animation work is great. My son is a somewhat gifted animator, though he's mostly given it up these days. He had artistic talent at a very young age. I wish he would have pursued it.

First heard of him on WXPN's Blues Show. We saw and then met him at the Pocono Blues Fest in '94. Super cool dude. Shame musicians of his talent level don't get the recognition that they deserve.

Thanks, that's kind of you to say. Bummer that your son gave it up, but I totally understand. I will say 1) there are a lot of untalented people succeeding just because they really wanted to; and 2) if he doesn't want to animate, it would become just as much of a drudgery as any other job. My older brother was a really talented artist, but he's much more happy doing what he's doing. He tried that hat on and it just didn't fit.

I saw him open for Dickey Betts Band back in 2001, really solid set. There is no doubt Larry is an Albert King fan.

One of the highlights of my concert-going career was Warren, Derek and Larry McCray trading 4's and 8's, round after round, at the Milwaukee Summerfest in 2005, I think the tune was The Same Thing. I was really close, too, like third row. That was a great day of music, got the whole family - Jaimoe, Oteil, DTB, Mule with Dave Mason guesting, and ABB.

I was at that day of shows too - one of the best days of music. I vaguely remember McCray, but as a huge Traffic fan, Dave Mason walking on stage was such a great moment.
