If you could choose what kind of album/guests musicians involving Derek on a new album.

My choice would be a sultry blues album with him having Jack Pearson, Dickey and Jaimoe involved with singers like Junior mack, Bonnie Raitt, Beth hart and Jimmy Hall.

I have 2 requests. First would be Derek, Jimmy Herring, Chuck Leavell, Tal Wilkenfeld and the Drummer from Dave Matthews. The second would be much more song oriented with Derek, John Mayer, Steve Jordan, Oteill and the keyboard/piano player from Joe Bonamassa's band. Totally different with one being a jazz oriented instrumental group and the other blues/rock/pop band. That's my 2 and I will add that any horns, background vocals etc. would be ok with me as well.

His own band has so much talent already.

I'd like to see them set up residence someplace - Levon's barn maybe - and seriously cut loose with the idea of doing theme nights.

One night, the TTB does all blues, classic old school smokin' blues.

Then, for one night, it is jazz night, mostly instrumental, with room for some intense weirdness.

Then, one night, they focus on playing all TTB originals. Only songs from their own creation.

Then a night (or two) of rock covers. Maybe one night is Mad Dogs & Englishmen / Derek & Dominoes only.

Make this available via Instant Live or something similar.

His current TTB lineup. Just let me co-produce and co-write some with the band! -;

I concur with every statement regarding Derek's present situation. Pretty hard to improve on the TTB lineup!
Whenever these discussions arise, I always mention Yo Yo Ma. He is a Classical musician but has done several "world music" ventures (Silk Road Journey etc). Anything that they might create would likely fly under the radar, but I bet they'd make some interesting sounds together.

I would love to see Derek do something with Todd Smallie, Yonrico Scott, Kofi Burbridge, Mike Mattison. And maybe bring the Count M'Butu out of retirement. That hypothetical lineup would have so much potential. They could take it on the road for sure.

Bingo, kinda tired of this what could Derek be doing BS. Apparently he's doing what he want's since they've been a band for 8 years. Also, if this was such a bad experience why has Mike Mattison stuck with them the entire time.

Put him with some fine players in a classic rock band with a "great" songwriter.

A half dozen iconic songs that people still listen to in 50 years should about take care of the 1st album.

well. from a face to face conversation that I had with Derek, asking him if he could pick a musician to appear with/record with, his answer was....

Zakir Hussain.

So, I'll go with that.

Derek with Dave mason and Steve Winwood would be interesting also. But Steve and Dave could never settle there differences.

If we're going to do that how about doing an experimental thing rather than same old- Try on bass Robert Trujillo (ex-ozzy,metallica) or Victor Wooten: On drums Chris Adler (ex-lamb of god-great drummer); Maybe Marsallis on Sax-he seemed ok mixing it up at Lockn with Dead, not sure on another guitar-have that Dereks choice maybe no one, or Doyle Bramhal if he wants to be safe or Mahvishu J McLaughlin if he wants to be out there & spiritual, and if a keyboards in: Bruce Hornsby or Chuck Leavell to keep it all honest & to rein it all in once in awhile. Set them all up in a large room or stage for few hours & see where it all goes. I'd buy it. Oh yeh and for a vocalist-how about the singer from Shinedown-he's great (or maybe even Steven Tyler if he's finished his country fix) they can start on a jam of 'Simple Man'. Derek would have to play a large amount of slide to this collaboration too. They're all such pros,i'm sure it'd be very interesting & fun! Be nice to see more of these sorts of risk takers getting together more often these days. Lots of music out there is just not that innovative or exciting lately.

I've always wanted to hear a Derek and Steve Kimock album . . . Do something like . . . Have them hang out and meet up for a workshop at the Ali Akbar Khan school(near Kimock's home from what I gather reading many years ago) then meet up later at Swamp Raga . . . the rest of the lineup or personnel wouldn't matter much to me. People are always asking for Derek and Herring but they've collaborated on albums several times in the past but I'd be much more interested to hear this combo instead.
