HUGE COMPLAINT ABOUT THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY BOXSET PACKAGING

Mine arrived from amazon today. Worst new item i ever purchased. 3 of the 5 disc holders were already unglued at the bottom of the cardboard. Those 3 cd were actually glued to the packaging and the cd's had glue and cardboard stuck to them. The other 2 cd's had scuffs and scratches all over them and tiny marks of glue. All 5 cd's were garbage. Returning it to amazon for another one and i'll do this 100 times if i have to until a get one that appears pretty much brand new. I don't care if this affects the profits of ABB corp. Until i get one where the cd's are mostly free of scratches and scuffs and theres no glue i'll keep doing it

Wow....that's not good. I am hopefully gonna purchase mine in the next few weeks.

yes i was really pissed. usually i would at least keep it until the replacement arrives and combine sets so i have one good set but there is not a single cd in this first set that i would hang on to. i am willing to bet at least 4 of them skip due to the glue. there is one that doesn't have that many glue sports but its the one with the most scratches

i only bought mine to get the enclosed booklet.
5 cds and only a handful of unreleased cuts...wah.

I'm glad I got it. but it took a little more effort to get CDs out than it should have....maybe just getting old...lol. I've never been a big fan of the digipak cardboard cd cases.

Sorry to read about these low rent practices with ABB releases.
It is far more common than we should have to experience. Peakin' At The Beacon is an official new album on a major label but good soundboard recordings rather than a remote truck/studio. When I read the new live set was produced by the band and Bud Snyder (nothing against Bud, a good sound engineer) I should have known. But some of the tracks I enjoy.
Second Set had tracks that I already had from taping live radio shows plus Jessica on Second Set, which won a Grammy for best rock instrumental, is complete on my radio show dub. Some of the back and forth between Dickey and Warren is missing on the CD and some of Warren's hot solo has been edited out. Tom Dowd making it more compact and slick sounding I suppose.
I remember Dickey in an interview years ago talking about how key Berry Oakley's busy, lead guitar style bass playing was to the band's original sound, but Berry also was always worried about the fans. Making sure the promoters were not charging more than most ABB fans could afford and making sure ABB merchandise was decent quality and worth what they are charging for it.

mine were easy to get out because the cardboard holders on 3 discs were useless lol. once i grabbed the cd it came out but with glue and cardboard on it

I have the LP set, no problems with the packaging, everything fits nicely in the wood box. The LPs are in gatefold album covers and paper/plastic sleeves. I got the peach-swirl vinyl, really cool looking and the remastering sounds great. Too bad the CD package isn't put together like the vinyl box.

No problems with mine regarding the glue or scratched discs. The only downside I have found is when you come to take out disc 5 you need to remove the booklet to extract the disc. What I think I will do so as not to tear the cardboard housing the discs is to remove all the discs and put them in plastic wallets and leave inside the packaging.

I wonder if Matt05's was shipped to him used. If they sent him one that someone sent back. And that is the scratchy disks and the mess happened Matt05 got?

mine was shrink wrapped with that hype sticker still on the wrap

I think I read a review on Amazon where someone was also commenting on the packaging.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

Does anyone know where I can see a complete track listing for this new box set? Another thread maybe? Amazon does not show it.

5 cds and only a handful of unreleased cuts
My thoughts exactly, no thanks. How many times can fans be expected to fork up $ for music they already own?

since i don't have the arista albums i think there are 15 songs on this set i don't have on another release

Thanks Wayne

Got the replacement today and 4 cd's are good but one still has issues and skips. Amazon said i can only send it back for a refund or keep the damage set. Anyone have contact info for this idiotic record company and maybe they can send me just a disc 5?

Matt, that really sucks. I ordered mine from some vendor on ebay. I received it but after reading some of the comments here, I haven't even opened it. Still in the shrink wrap. Got a great price on it but I think I might just return it.

Wow! Man, I am sure this is very annoying and frustrating. I know I would be after dealing with what you had to put up with. Hopefully the people who laid down the big bucks for the vinyl did not have issues.
It looks like it was released by Mercury per Amazon website.

Amazon lists it has mercury and there is a mercury logo but also a UME on it too. They own mercury now

None of the discs in either set were mint. I have 20 year old cds that have less swirls and stuff than the discs in the set I got today. They are however not anything that would affect playing. Disc 5 though has what looks like some marks where it got hung in the device that slides it into the sleeve or whatever
