My wife and I will be going to Macon on August 24 and staying until the 26th.

Aside from all the obvious Allmans-themed stuff, do you guys have any advice for attractions, dining, lodging and the like? We're also looking to play a gig down there so any advice on cool little live venues would be appreciated.

Thanks, all!

Eating out-Jim Shaws on Vineville Ave. Just head out away from town from the Big House. Eat on the patio.
Best fish in town. Tell the guy at the bar Jerry sent you. FishnPig is on, literally on, Lake Tobasofkee.
You gotta have a Nu-Way hotdog.
Bar-b-que, Finchers, of course. Ribs, Ga Bobs. Tokyo Alley for oriental.
Stop in at the Cannonball House or the Hay House.
Go down Broadway for the Douglass Theater, the place where Ann's Tic Toc was, and the Capricorn Recording Studios.
Cotton Ave with the H&H and a few feet away are the old Capricorn Studio offices. Check out the little park next to the offices.
Follow Highway 41 from the Big House to Middle Georgia Raceway and have a selfie at the monument.
Like planes? Check out the Air Force Museum at Warner Robins AFB. Just keep following Highway 41 to Russell Parkway, turn left and watch for the turn off.
Go north on Riverside Drive to Juliette and have some fried green tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. The b-b-q might have something in the sauce.

Go to gatewaymacon.org for more things to do.

OH yeah, peaches. Check the farmers market on Eisenhower for fresh peaches.

Does that help any?

the usual chain hotel/motels are north of town off bass road/riverside drive but a slightly better one is the Hilton garden inn, 1220 Stadium Dr, Macon, GA 31204--right off the mercer campus and little Richard penniman drive
ditto on jim shaws but they are right smack up against the railroad tracks, when a train comes by you would think it's coming straight through the restaurant

also the Kroger on pio nono off vineville has cheap gas & further down pio nono is whiskey river which I can't recommend but the outdated yelp reviews are pretty funny

or try the rookery, grant's lounge or the hummingbird downtown and kirk's gallery nearby

I am partial to Satterfield's BBQ and for pizza I like Ingleside Village pizza.
