Anyone heard of Link Wray? I had never heard of Link Wray until this morning.

I was reading an interview with Pete Townshend and they asked him HIS favorite guitarists.

1. Jimi Hendrix

2. Eric Clapton

3. Link Wray

I stopped in my tracks. "Link Wray?? Who is that??"

How did I miss him all these years.

Pete said hearing Link Wray is why he picked up a guitar.

@hedges I think this may be Dickey at that very show!

Dickey's necktie gets on his strings so he has to stop and move it. Then Dickey turns on the afterburners and shows how back in his day he could hang with Duane Allman and scare the heck out of Warren!!

@robertdee Link Has been around for a good long time. Check out his hit Rumble from 1958.

He also has a song dedicated to Duane called I've got to Ramble but it sounds more like a Dickey tribute than Duane.

@steved Thanks!! I'm amazed I had not heard of Link Wray until Sunday April 10th (yesterday) when I was reading an interview with Pete Townshend and when Pete was asked who are his personal favorite guitarists Pete ranked Hendrix one and Clapton number two and number three was Link Wray.  I never got to Pete's number four and five because I had to stop and look up Link Wray. I had NEVER heard of him.

Yes Link (short for Lincoln) was born in 1929 in Dunn, North Carolina and died in 2005 in Copenhagen, Denmark at age 76.

I've found some vids on YouTube. But I had never heard of him until yesterday. Amazing.
