When I was an auditor at Price Waterhouse, my client was Prudential Healthcare in Roseland. I had to do some physical therapy for an injured hip on Rt. 10 after work one night. By happenstance, I took Mount Pleasant Avenue home and on the Livingston border, there was a small hole-in-the-wall bar on the right hand side heading toward West Orange, I saw the marquee had Hubert Sumlin's name on it for that evening. I slammed on the brakes, put it in reverse and watched Hubert Sumlin play for a few hours with no more than 15-20 other people. Guy chatted the place up, including me. What a good and fortuitous night.

the Landmark is exactly the palce I was thinking of. I do not know them to have live music but it fits in all other regards.. God knows what I've been missing there!

Great story and interview. I remember reading that part about Clapton some time ago but I can't remember where I saw it.

I had the pleasure of attending the Hubert Sumlin benefit concert at The Apollo. Never was I more impressed with Warren than that night. I had first row lower balcony seats. When all 20 guitarists were on stage for the finale (Smokestack Lightning) everyone was joking; mailing in their obligatory few bars. When Clapton was playing Warren stared at his fingers during EC's solo; the hardest working man in the business

You're welcome. Pleasure to get it out there.

Not going to the Hubert tribute was one of few regrets I have. I don;t remember what the conflict was now, but it should have been overcome.

Was there at the Howlin' for Hubert show as well. Fantastic evening of music. Came away thinking The Apollo is a lot bigger on tv.
