Guns N' Roses Reunion Rumors Reignited by Website Update

Guns N’ Roses‘ official website has undergone a potentially prophetic – or possibly meaningless – update. Nearly everything from the site’s former design, including five of the eight main navigation sections, has been removed in favor of a big splashy image of the band’s famous classic-era “bullet” logo.
As Blabbermouth.com notes, this change could be seen as another clue that some or all of the band’s Appetite for Destruction-era lineup is reuniting. Their report goes on to note that the group are rumored to be among the headliners of next year’s Coachella festival, the initial lineup of which is expected to be announced on January 5.
It’s also entirely possible that Guns N’ Roses’ only remaining founding member, singer Axl Rose, is merely re-instating that logo without reuniting with Slash, Duff McKagan, Izzy Stradlin or Steven Adler. Or that this is just a placeholder for a new site design. Heck, a conspiracy-minded reporter might even think that Rose was just messing with the press by making us work on what’s supposed to be a day off.
All this reunion talk heated up back in August, when Slash revealed that he and Rose were friends again, burying the hatchet after years in disagreement. That plus the departure of two of the band’s most recent guitarists, DJ Ashba and Ron “Bumblefoot” Thai, has prompted six months of reunion rumors – again, none of which is based on any official comment or confirmation from the band – fueled by everything from promoter and peer speculation to a new line of band merchandise featuring the faces of the original lineup.

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

I feel sorry for Slash and the rest of the guys. It won't take long before they remember why they hated it. Axl will pull all the same stunts at shows and then screw them over. But the cash is just too much to pass on.
Headline a festival? That will be a fun riot when he decides to play 6 or 7 hours late or perhaps the following weekend.

Ill be keeping an eye on reviews if they do a US tour.
Axl starts pulling his diva routine ( going onstage 2 hours late, walking off, etc) ill pass.
If they actually DO play, I think the talent of Slash and Duff can overcome Axl's vocal "deficiencies" 😉

And playing a festival where timing is crucial..
This could end very very badly
Maybe Slash can make sure Myles Kennedy is in town...just in case. lol

Guns and Roses did a residency in Vegas in 2014 at The Hard Rock Hotel ("The Joint"). If I remember from when I heard about it, they did maybe 10 shows. They filmed an entire show and AXS has been airing it (or was, anyway).
Hey, I don't care if Axl was the only original member involved in this. Let me tell you something, if you get AXS, you should watch it. It's very , VERY hot! Bucketloads of their older material. Probably a 2-1/2 hour show. I assume it's on DVD but I don't know about that.

He never stopped doing that diva stuff like going on hours late. It will only increase with more media attention.
Won't end well.

Never cared for this band at all...

I watched the AXS show. It was good enough I kept watching it. Got the impression that the musicians were more up there for the showmanship of the event, compared to when I've seen Slash's band...I think there was something with them I saw on Directv. I enjoyed that alot more, not sure what band that was, think Kennedy was the singer.
Anyway, Axl has to sing different these days. Alot of singers have to alter how they handle parts of songs or entire songs as they age. It could still be pretty good with original members backing him up however I get the sense that it wouldn't last like some of the past Van Halen reunions.

Times 2

I am X3, more interested in the headlines to come from Axl's behavior than any music these folks will put out.

Probably just a stunt by Axl to try to get some interest in the band me thinks!

I'm not a huge GNR fan, although I've always liked them and enjoy Slash's playing. But I am interested. I saw the concert vid of the last lineup (must've been the AXS special) and it was entertaining and Axl sang well enough that I'd like to hear him again with the classic lineup. His voice is less shot than some other lead singers from that era who continue on to this day. He also did some atrocious protracted screams (Live and Let Die?) that likely didn't help things with his voice, and if he lays off doing that and the band works with changing keys on certain more vocally-challenging songs, I could see them pulling this off. Schedule shows every other day, or even every third day like some other 'classic' bands do.
Perhaps 50/50 chance of imploding mid-tour, but if the VH Brothers can pull it off with DLR for the past 8 years, I don't see why a more sober version of GNR couldn't do the same. The band can rehearse without Axl, and just show up on stage and see him 2 hours every few days. They could also write in some severe penalties into the contract for showing up to concerts late to try and avoid what happened in the past with his diva crap.
I am interested in which lineup this would be. Would it be the last Use Your Illusion lineup, or the Appetite lineup? Or some sort of hybrid. I've read Matt Sorum saying publicly that he'd be all for both drummers with two kits on stage, but I wonder if he's been hearing Adler is back in and is just trying to get out in front of it out of self-interest. I don't think Adler has the chops to pull it off by himself, so the two kits idea makes sense. Especially if they play Appetite in its entirety, followed by another hour of other hits, deep cuts & covers.
Wonder if Izzy would participate too?

BTW, wasn't the hugest fan of the acoustic stuff on Lies, but I loved the electric version of Patience they played on the American Music Awards with Don Henley subbing for Adler on drums. They were playing through garage-rock practice amps (Fender Champs?), and were pretty f-ed up, but it sounded good as I recall. Off to youtube....

Forgive the 3-in-a-row posts. Hope the forum police aren't out in force.
Eddie Trunk can get on my nerves, but he does seem to have good sources and is often right: http://eddietrunk.com/15-my-latest-on-the-guns-n-roses-reunion-news
He basically says the GNR negotiations/planning is still fluid, and the Coachella announcement got out ahead of them, so they are still mum on the lineup right now. So they only announced Axl, Slash & Duff.
Axl essentially owns everything, so he can call the shots. It is extremely unlikely to be the Appetite/original lineup though, or the Illlusion lineup. Axl has only announced the departure of 2 of the 3 guitarists from his most recent lineup, and nothing about his drummer or bass player. So it looks likely they will be going out with Axl's current drummer and the remaining guitarist (presumably they don't need 2 bass players). So no Izzy on guitar and no Steven Adler on drums unless they are special guests (like Mick Taylor during the Stones' 50th anniversary tour?). And no Matt Sorum or Gilby Clarke.
Wonder if Axl and the VH brothers have the same management or 'spiritual adviser'. If you're going to go to the trouble and heartache of reuniting, why not at least do things right and go out with the Illusion lineup.

Similar to others in this thread, I'm more interested in the drama then the actual band reunion itself as I've never been a big Gun N' Roses fan.
If they do reunite for a tour, they should absolutely take a page out of the Van Halen playbook and perform every other night and avoid each other as much as humanly possible except during the actual show. Also like the recent Van Halen tour, don't over extend themselves and only do maybe 40-50 shows total.
From everything I read on VHlinks and from media reviews during the VH tour, the Van Halen's (especially Eddie) were on absolute fire and even Roth's performances improved immensely about 2/3 of the way through. GNR could certainly do the same it seems to me given Axl's voice is in far better shape it seems than Roth's....

GUNS N' ROSES has issued a press release confirming that guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan will rejoin singer Axl Rose for the band's upcoming performances at this year's Coachella Music And Arts Festival. GUNS N' ROSES will play on April 16 and April 23 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. There is no word on whether original guitarist Izzy Stradlin or drummer Steven Adler will appear. Consequence Of Sound says that Adler's original replacement, Matt Sorum, is also on board, while other reports have suggested that current drummer Frank Ferrer and guitarist Richard Fortus will round out the lineup.
Tickets for Coachella Music And Arts Festival go on sale Wednesday, January 6 at 11:00 a.m. via Coachella.com.
Speculation about a reunion tour has been steady ever since Slash revealed last summer that he and Axl had repaired their friendship after being estranged for nearly 20 years.
The last show Axl and Slash played together was on July 17, 1993 at River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires. The latest incarnation of GUNS N' ROSES, which only included Axl from the original lineup, played a residency in Las Vegas in 2014 but has remained silent since.
According to Billboard, the GUNS reunion — which sources say has been in the works for two years — is also seeking to mount a 25-city stadium tour, with the band reportedly asking for anywhere from $3 million to $5 million a show.
Official press release announcing GUNS N' ROSES reunion:
Upholding a three-decade tradition of breaking ground, creating trends, and forever changing the face of rock 'n' roll, GUNS N' ROSES announce the most significant and anxiously awaited musical event of this century. Founder Axl Rose and former members Slash and Duff McKagan will regroup to headline the Coachella Music And Arts Festival (April 15-17 & April 22-24) — as announced last night!
For months, critics and audiences alike have generated immense excitement and speculation over the possible regrouping of the iconic lineup. The April performances will mark the first time since 1993 the Gunners will share the stage for what is certain to be an explosive event.
Following the group’s 1985 formation, GUNS N' ROSES injected unbridled, unrivaled, and unstoppable attitude into the burgeoning Los Angeles rock scene. The spirit went on to captivate the entire world with the release of their 1987 debut "Appetite For Destruction" — the best-selling U.S. debut ever, moving 30 million copies globally. In 1991, the seven-time platinum "Use Your Illusion I" and "Use Your Illusion II" occupied the top two spots of The Billboard 200 upon release.
Over the course of the past decade, GUNS N' ROSES have performed sold out shows and headlined festivals worldwide following the critically acclaimed release of 2008's RIAA platinum-certified "Chinese Democracy".
Six studio albums later, GUNS N' ROSES are one of the most important and influential acts in music history and continue to set the benchmark for live performances, connecting with millions of fans across the globe.

Well, it looks like our very own Eddie Trunk was correct, and ahead of the curve, Guitar Player reports that joining Guns N’ Roses members Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan onstage at Coachella, will be: keyboardist Dizzy Reed, multi-instrumentalist Chris Pitman, guitarist Richard Fortus and drummer Frank Ferrer.
According to Guitar Player, there is still no confirmation on the participation of Dave Kushner, the Velvet Revolver guitarist, who is rumored to be in the lineup. Nor have we heard confirmation that original drummer Steven Adler will be getting behind the set. Adler is reportedly in negotiations with the band.
The Coachella Music & Arts Festival is scheduled for April 15th-17th & April 22nd-24th in Indio, California. For more information about this event, please visit gunsnroses.com..

Matt Sorum was pretty vocal against Axl so his absence doesn't surprise me. I think Izzy wants nothing to do with these guys so no surprises there. The others have been with Axl so he likely insisted they remain.
What is the over/under on Axl making it to a show?

izzy has played with axl several times in the last 10 years. my guess this has to do with izzy not wanting to tour and will show up on stage as a guest whenever the tour is close to wherever he is at the time

I meant anything beyond playing a few tunes. Izzy tired of that circus long ago. I don't blame him.

Odds on Axl making it to the first show. Starting 50/50
Over/Under on hours Axl late at Coachella - Starting 3 Hours
Odds On Axl Freaking Out at the crowd and leaving at Coachella - Starting 100%
Number of Shows On Stadium Tour before Axl Walks - Starting 1
Number Of Shows ON stadium Tour before a riot. Starting 1.5 - Depends On City
Odds On Tour Finishing - Starting 0%

certainly true

Guns N’ Roses are big fans of Las Vegas, having staged residencies there in the past, and they’ll return to the Nevada hot spot in April ahead of their appearance at Coachella.
According to a new video teaser, the band will perform April 8 and 9 at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Back in December, around the time that rumors of Coachella appearances were rampant, Billboard also reported that the band was in talks to play in Las Vegas as well and now those rumors have come to fruition.
A look at the trailer in the Facebook posting, seen below, shows audiences going wild, and shots of Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan, but was careful not to show any other band members.
