New research shows the reason late 50's Les Paul guitars have such a fantastic tone is due to the pickguards!!! The pickguards made in the 1950's is what gives that beloved Les Paul tone you don't hear on later year Les Paul's.
And collectors and players are moving quickly to install genuine 1950's Les Paul pickguards on their guitars.
Late 50's pickguards were selling today in stores and shops around the US for $10,000.00!!!

Waddy and "Kootch" are two of my favorite players ... of all time!

@bill_graham Top blues guitarists of all time. I like the list but Duane, Derek and perhaps Dickey?

@bill_graham Looks like Gary Moore's fiesta red 1961 Strat. Gary was a Les Paul man but he played this particular Strat about 30 percent of the time I read. Gary wished it had a fatter tone but he said the neck was fast and it stayed in tune real good.

@bill_graham Heritage builds incredibly awesome guitars - (mostly) same workers, saws, lathes and building that built Gibson for many years. Their biggest flaw: the headstocks do not bear the Gibson name.

I am on a Guns N Roses/ Slash jag right now so listening to a lot of live concerts. Slash is in my top 5 of all time favorite guitatist as I love the mans tone.

Love reading about Joe's latest acquisition's. The man has some serious GAS!
He could have one helluva auction if he ever decides it is time time to thin the herd of all his Guitars, amps and other equipment and memorabilia.
Just got a great bootleg proshot video of Slash w/ Myles Kennedy at the Boston HOB in 2022.
The wife and I were at that concert but were up in the mezzanine and had a crappy view of the stage.
I had heard they were going to release this concert officially but for some reason it never happened. Not sure how the bootleggers got their hands on it but glad I get to see it again.
Whether you like the music Slash made Myles Kennedy or not his playing was stellar at this concert and he played several long improvised solos. This was one of my favorites.
Another long solo after this song and band intros
@bill_graham I won't link it as I've only been a modest Van Halen fan but it was an interview with Eddie and he was asked about some influences and Eddie only had Eric Clapton as an influence and after he could play Crossroads etc note for note as good as Clapton could Eddie came up with his own licks and doesn't claim ANY guitar player influnces. And Eddie didn't really like any of the production guitars. All of them were lacking something somewhere so he put together his own guitars using parts and did his own wiring. Always looking to come up with something better. Eddie was a "parts guitar" guy until he got his own line with partner Music Man.
When asked if there was another band which impressed him Eddie said Toto. Toto had top shelf polished players at every position. Toto was without a doubt technically the best.
I had a modest interest in them. Saw them live once. Perhaps they were too polished and slick for me. Maybe.
