I hear you Rusty. Money better spent on other Gently used guitars.
From what I have read it is possible to replace a Les Paul set in neck but the cost would out way the end result I am guessing.
I think a talented luthier could fix the structural damage even to the neck but at what cost?
I remember when the heavy pancake body Norlin era Les Paul's were not highly thought of.
Evidently with other vintage Les Paul's prices going through the roof they have become somewhat collectible.
For the money they want for them in decent shape you could get a nice used modern Les Paul I think.

My favorite ZZTop song.
Govt Mule does a killer version as well. A blast from the past
Funny, all those "English guys" Joe mentions all played Telecasters before they played Les Pauls.

@bill_graham How about this player Bill. I like the way he goes for maximum energy when he plays even though some of the notes seem misplaced but he keeps racking them and letting them rip!!!

@bill_graham So Neal was not working with Gibson for a stretch?
First couple of times I saw Journey, Neal played a black Les Paul. But the last time he played a Strat. I was surprised with no Les Paul so I figured he was older and wanted something lighter on his shoulder for that tour.
But many of the famous guitar players apparently often play the make with which they have a business deal?
I suppose.
Neal and Johnathan Cain of Journey I read gave a song to Gregg Allman who put finishing touches on it. But it didn't mention what song.
It must be "Temptation is a Gun" from "Where It All Begins".
