@bill_graham 335 - 345 - 355 ... I'd be proud to own any of 'em!
Great demo, but it would likely take the ears of a record producer to fully appreciate any differences.

It seems to be a myth the late 50's to 1960 Les Paul Bursts are only collectors guitars. Here we learn several classic Bursts are played everyday!!

How Les Paul Burst finish is sprayed

@bill_graham Enjoyed how the Burst is sprayed. Now going to read about Epiphone. Of course these days Epiphone has the Gibson guitars including the Les Paul at a more affordable price.
Here is George Benson's understudy for about a minute.

Norm's Rare Guitars- Guitar of the day. 1976 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Burgundy

@robertdee Yeah those Norlin era guitars with the mini humbuckers have a bad reputation but they are actually collectable now and are rising in price.
Robbo and Scott Gorham played them with Thin Lizzy and had great tone IMHO

@bill_graham Barry Bailey of Atlanta Rhythm Section played a Deluxe as well. I have always maintains that the outro on "Angel" is very David Gilmour-esque:

YARD SALE FIND!
Poking around at a neighborhood yard sale this morning and found an old American made Guild F30NT guitar. Asking price was $125.00. I half heartedly offered $50.00. I expected to be turned down severely, but they accepted my offer!
The guitar has a couple of cosmetic issues, the most serious being the black headstock laminate has pulled away. Local luthier says he'll fix this for around $50.00.
While I haven't determined the exact birthdate - it seems to be from the late 60s or early 70s. Values (or asked prices) run from about $900 for one much more beat up than this - to upper $2K's. The action is low and fast and it rings like a church bell after a wedding on Christmas Eve! The case is original - with the Guild logo intact. Nice, woven strap similar to the ones I had in the 70's, and several vintage Fender flat and finger picks in the compartment. These items would be worth the $50.00 by themselves!

@bill_graham I don't know much about Guild at all. What seems to be a big deal is that this one was made in Hoboken. Guild moved from Hoboken in 1966. I'mm writing as I research so I didn't have a birthdate in the first post. The guitar is at least 57 years old.

Guilds of that era were roughly equivalent to Gibsons and Martins. They were popular with the folkie set. Judy Collins played a guild and I believe the beat up acoustic Richie Havens played at Woodstock was a Guild. Guild 12 strings were very popular.

New Fenders made with Stradivari spruce tonewood

Norms Rare Guitars- Guitar of the day, 1963 Fender Jazzmaster Sunburst

@bill_graham Man I've seen some videos of guys playing Fender Jazzmasters in the last few months and those guitars sound real good to me!! What do you think?
There is an Eric Clapton guitar solo in this just after the clarinet.

I watched Face The Nation on CBS this morning and Democrats and Republican guests fussing about taxes, the border, electric cars, unions, abortion and on and on.
In the 1970's they were fussing then too. Politics, politics and not much ever changes.

@robertdee That's peak BB right there! He had the same backing players for ... a long time! The whole band grooves!

Mike McCready with his old beat up, scratched up with a worn dip in the back of the neck but it's like wearing a comfortable old pair of shoes to Mike, 1960 Fender Stratocaster.
Here Mike came up with a solo work out piece I think he may have borrowed from another player!! Chet Atkins? Toy Caldwell? Lowell George? I can't place it.

Duane Allman Les Paul custom shop, this is a couple if years old so may have already posted it but beautiful guitar so worth another look

@rusty not the same model as your sweet score but high praise for a Guild acoustic

@bill_graham Thanks! Nice read! This is much more of a "deluxe" model - more appointments than my yard sale find which is pretty basic by comparison. I dropped my newly found treasure off with a local luthier yesterday - I'll update with before/after pix etc. when the basic restoration is complete.
An aside - I read the Wikipedia on Guild yesterday. Now owned by Fender - their plant has been moved to various locations in recent years. They're part of a chain that includes Gretsch, and a few other smaller manufacturers that have been absorbed by Fender. Kinda like how Bud and Miller bought up so many small brewers over the past 20 years. Again, I don't know much about Guild guitars. They're probably considered to be lesser instruments than Gibson and Martin - dunno. There are other GREAT manufacturers out there including Collings and Santa Cruz that make exceptional instruments. They ain't cheap, either! 😉

@robertdee I believe Jack Cassady (Hot Tuna) played a Guild Starfire bass early on. I think he plays his own Epiphone namesake bass these days. Yeah, I don't know a lot about the Guild brand but I've seen a lot of players use them over the years. I mean, they're legit instruments! 😉
I can't wait to report back when my yard sale find is finished being tweaked. I told the luthier to take his time with the restoration!

I love the Les Paul Special, but you don't see too many "lead" guitarists playing them. I did see a clip of Joe Walsh recently but I forget the song that he was playing (probably somewhere in this thread?). Bob Marley played one and John Lennon can be seen playing one in photographs from rare post-Beatles performances . LP body with P-90s? How bad could they be?Posted by: @bill_grahamGibson TV Special
