Turning a Les Paul Jr into a Gretsch

Gibson Les Paul 2003 50th Anniversary guitar.

The Acoustic Shoppe musical oddities
Thought there were some interesting stringed instruments if you have a half hour to kill.
Love the opening early 20th Century vintage banjo ukulele. Only $250 and if I had some spare $$$ I might spring for it and try to learn how to play it.

@rusty Rusty you are right. I found my old 1970 photo album with one picture of Ten Years After and AL is playing a big red Gibson. I don't know where that Strat came from but to me it sounded good. A fine Strat tone. Some Stratocasters are too thin for rock. More for Country and Western perhaps.
I remember seeing George Jones on TV years and years ago and his guitarist was playing a Telecaster. The bass notes he got on those top strings were so cool. And I've never been a big Country and Western fan.
I found this. Probably the same guitar. What deep low notes for an electric guitar.

Tommy Bolin's 1960 Gibson Les Paul on Joe Bonamassa's Nerdville youtube channel

@bill_graham I just noticed this Bill. I really enjoyed watching that including the long lead in:)
Earl Scruggs played a Gibson Master tone 5 string banjo and played with three picks on his right hand which is how most today play.
Flatt and Scruggs was one of the best in that genre. SO SMOOTH and musical!!

Fender American vs. Mexican strats compared
https://guitaristnextdoor.com/american-vs-mexican-fender/

@bill_graham Wow! There are so many guitars in the world today that are worth over a million dollars.
Maybe my old Strat and SG will be worth at least $5,000 someday.

@bill_graham Interesting. Seems the Mexican Strat is between the typical American guitar and a Squire.
Last time I looked at Warren Haynes' rig rundown one of his guitars was a Mexican Strat.
Warren is a Les Paul man for the most part. But he plays his green Eric Clapton Strat when he is playing David Gilmore material.
Warren has several Gibson Firebirds too. Interesting looking guitar but I rarely see someone playing one.

Johnny Winter's main guitar was a Firebird for most of his career

@bill_graham Yes that is true. I had forgotten about that. I think Eric Clapton played a Firebird for a brief period.
Yep just found this. It was 1964. I don't recall knowing who Clapton was in 1964. But Gibson has this.

Speaking of Firebirds, here is Derek playing one in open D with TTB a few years ago.

@porkchopbob How 'bout that. It reminded me of Ry Cooder's tone on several of his electric slide solos.
It looked as if Derek was ready to change guitars at the very end.
I liked Susan's guitar solo a lot too. She isn't a slouch at all.
Assuming that Tele is the same guitar she played in Las Vegas in 1999, Dickey Bett's signature is on the body. It looks like the same ax.

@porkchopbob I saw a young man wearing this picture of Derek and Dickey on a T shirt last weekend. Here it is on a baby article of clothing. I'd like to have a T shirt with it. Maybe Derek and Dickey on the front and Duane and Dickey on the back.

@rusty Is that what it is called? Funny thing about baby stuff. Take diapers. When you get old they put you back in them.
I'll be 77 this year and Dickey will be 80. I hope it doesn't come to that!! I don't want it and it's hard to imagine Dickey in diapers!!
I noticed Duane Betts played the famous Ryman Auditorium in Nashville recently. His debut on that famous stage where so many greats have played for decades.
Duane thanked those close to him who were going to be there and said he was thinking about his father. Said he knew his father would be there if he could but his father can't travel now.
I wonder why? Wish Dickey well. Dickey IS the reason the Allman Brothers Band had one album that sold like something from The Rolling Stones or Eagles or Fleetwood Mac or Pink Floyd.

@robertdee It has always been my opinion that the Allman Brother's Band continued after Duane because of Dickey's drive and direction. It would've been real easy for them to have folded up shop at that point. Duane was the heart, soul and driving force of the band, but Dickey was (to me) his equal when it came to guitar playing. I can't tell you how many times I've been in an environment (living room, bar etc.) when Filmore East was playing and someone would remark on Duane's incredible playing during a particular section. I'd always agree, but occasionally had to point out that the licks/solo currently being played or referred to was Dickey.

He played that guitar in 1968 during the Cream tour of the states during the last few shows. All the live Cream releasees were recorded before the Firebird with the "Fool" SG. The Firebird was a loaner from a fan Clapton returned it before he left to go back to England.Posted by: @robertdee@bill_graham Yes that is true. I had forgotten about that. @njpaulc There is footage of Clapton in a studio playing a Firebird and Buddy Guy is there too. Don't remember what year.
Warren said he liked Firebirds because he can get something like a Strat tone yet still have some Gibson bite. But the two Gov't Mule shows I've seen where they did some Floyd covers, Warren played his green Strat with Eric Clapton electronics. I was kinda hoping Warren would play one of his Firebirds but with the Strat Haynes had Gilmore's tone down cold. I was surprised it was that close. Must of been how he had his Amp and pedals set too.

Gibson has recovered the entire archive of schematics, drawings and engineering notes, etc., for their vintage amps and effects they sold from 1936-1969. A former employee saved them from the trash and was selling them on eBay.
Just an amazing find and piece of Gibson history now back where it belongs.

I only own a Gibson GA-5 5W reissue amp made by Mojotone so have never tried a Vintage Gibson guitar amp but they are highly collectable and overlooked compared to Fender's and Marshall amps I think.

Choose your favorite guitar tone from the four makes offered here. They are so close to me. Perhaps the same Amp and setting? The Les Paul is probably the most different. What say you?

I gotta tell you life’s coincidences can be entertaining.
Last week I was poking around and played Wichita Lineman and heard the great solo Campbell plays on the Fender Bass VI. Just for laughs I looked to see if they could be had. Squier Classic Vibe Bass VI for under$500.
So now I have one.
I have been checking out all the uses, besides WL, Marboro Country Theme, spaghetti western soundtracks, Chain of Fools intro played by Joe South, Jack Bruce in the early days of Cream, and yes lots of country stuff including that Race Is On solo.
Life, it is funny.

Cool axe! Cool t-shirt!

Yes that is way cool. Fender has rock bottom prices with their Squire line. Jack Pearson played them. Some of his from Singapore where $125 dollars and he claimed he didn't do much to it to get one on stage.
Slash Mouth died today. The lead singer that is. 56 years old. RIP. I saw them on Letterman twice. First time I thought it was Gov't Mule because I had gone to the kitchen when they were introduced.

Little clip of some real nice Strat tone. I like a good sounding Strat almost as good as a Les Paul.
