@bill_graham I see. Thanks. It's been so long. This is a custom shop recreation of Duane second Les Paul guitar. The one Duane acquired and he traded his GoldTop for it but made sure his tech moved the pickups into this guitar. Duane liked his GoldTop pickups better but liked the color of this guitar. I had forgotten it didn't have pickup covers and I thought it looked more like this sunburst in color here.

Gibson master artisan Leo Scala collection

I like the looks but not sure about that Les Paul not having an adjustable bridge for intonation adjustment. Would always sound out of tune?

@bill_graham Those guitars look beat up but cool. Yes the bridge on the Les Paul incomplete and tricky.
The guitar on the right is a type of Gibson I'd never seen.
The Flying V looks as if someone backed a car over it. And the F bomb scratched on it. That would make it for persons 21 or over?

Ripped off at Nashville music store.

Nerdville with Joe Bonamassa

@bill_graham Joe Bonamassa SMOKING HOT on a TELE!! Watch for the smoke!! You can actually SEE the smoke coming off Joe's guitar!!!!!!

Are vintage guitars really better than new guitars?

New Squire by Fender Strat has EPIPHONE BRIDGE!!
Fender is now aware of it and states it's unintentional. The bridge is built by a third party which builds parts for several guitar makes and it turned out Epiphone wanted their name on the bridge and when Fender put in their order, the third party manufacturer send the bridges with Epiphone stamped on it.
Fender and Gibson were not aware of this until someone doing a review noticed it. He he!! I think it's funny;)

New Squire lineup leaked to press ahead of what was planned a big drop event!
I want one with an Epiphone bridge:)

Another piece on Fender's Squire line using bridges badged "EPIPHONE". Epiphone is owned by Gibson.
I think it's funny. Like a Ford pickup with a Chevrolet tailgate.

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

@jszfunk I wonder how Jack Pearson is doing? Apparently he isn't able to play these days. Jack is one of the best I've ever heard.
(MORE!!)
According to what I found on the net, Jack continues to suffer from ringing in the ear, dizziness which has caused Jack to fall a few times at home and arthritis.
Apparently Jack hasn't plugged into an amp in over two years but plays some acoustic occasionally until the arthritis flares up.
One Facebook page said Jack could use your prayers.

Saluting Roy Buchanan all the way from South Korea!!!

Josh Smith is another hot guitar player based in Nashville. I've seen Josh on stage with Jack Pearson and Joe Bonamassa. But I've never really checked him out.
Tell me what you think of Josh Smith!

A good article for guitar nerds. Vintage vs new.

Just read an interview with Paul McCartney. Paul said James Jamerson was his favorite bass player and Paul said he just recently knew his name.
Several music magazines ranked him number one.
I just looked him up as I had never heard of him.
Jamerson was an upright player but converted to electric ( Fender Precision) and used only ONE finger to pluck the strings and played open strings on the 5th to compensate for his one finger style, a hold over from the upright bass.
Jamerson played bass on dozens of top 10 hits from Motown from 1960 to 1971.
He died in 1983 after years of alcoholism from cirrhosis of the liver at age 47.
Here is one of dozens and of top 10 hits which features him on bass with his one finger open string style.
Here are pictures of Jamerson.
And one of my favorite tracks Jamerson is on!

Always wanted a ES-335 but one of these would scratch that itch

Posted by: @robertdeeA good article for guitar nerds. Vintage vs new.
I read an interview with Jim McCarty (Cactus) a while back. One point he made (regarding Les Pauls) was that "there were 'lemons" made in the '50s'.
Hand-made instruments are subject to human error, lapses in concentration, fatigue etc.. I'm sure that the design, materials and workmanship were a step up from the more modern eras. Having said that, "machine-made" construction probably produces instruments of a more consistent quality. The Norlin era guitars get slighted by many. Those are the only Les Pauls that I've ever played and I've never played one that I thought was that awful.
The only people who can afford these sought after "Holy Grails" are the uber famous and uber wealthy. I am happy for these players. Who in the their right mind would take a quarter of a million dollar instrument on tour or into a local venue? I'm guessing that a lot of touring players take more regular and affordable guitars on the road.
a 58 or 59 LP that requires so much babying and security ... you don't own that guitar - it owns you!

@bill_graham Have you seen this Bill? Dickey plays a great Blue Sky solo on a ES-335 dot neck. I think it's a 1961.

Joe Bonamassa guitar collection circa 2012.
He has added a bunch of guitars since this article was published 11 years ago but a good read on how he started collecting as a teen and some great guitar porn pics of vintage guitars in his collection.

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

That is a really nice guitar. But the Epiphone is priced at $1300. It is right there with a Gibson LP Tribute and not far from a Gibson LP Studio.
Visually, this is certainly a prettier guitar than either of those.
The body carve is a nice feature. Most newer Fender guitars (and many other brands) have that feature.
